Hi!

I'm new to the hobby, but not new to keeping aquariums.

I've decided on what shrimp I would like to keep, but now I am wondering if I could get a bit of help or advice on how to set up the perfect tank for them.

I am on a bit of a budget but hopefully it won't hinder my capabilities of providing a nice home (once I find the shrimp). Lol

Would like to know where to start with substrate. Soil, gravel, sand?

Soil or planted substrate (ADA, Benibachi, CAL Black earth premium) for Caridina shrimps like CRS, CBS and taiwan bees.

Gravel or sand for Neo Caridina shrimp like Cherry shrimp.

Tiger shrimps can go in either planted substrate or gravel.

Hi jayc did you ever try akadama?

Its like ada without nh4 and plants adictive, its a dead subatrate.

You can add it when substrate is in the end , without any adictives...

I would love to try it, but Akadama is not available in Australia. At least, not that I am aware of. And I am not willing to pay for shipping such a heavy bag from overseas.

You should do a review of it and post it on here for other hobbyists. Add some pictures, water parameter tests, etc.
