Hi

thanks for the add.

Am new to shrimp keeping and need to learn lots! So after this post please excuse me if I spend my time reading furiously at every opportunity trying to get up to speed on stuff I need to know.

Bought a tank in January of this year 54ltr and thought hmmmm don't really want fish .... and the shrimp bug hit. So now have a tank full of all sorts of shrimp and they are in the vast majority berried at the moment. Have a sneaky feeling may have to get another tank ready for population explosion!

I don't really have a clue as to what they are called colour wise so forgive me for my lack of name / species knowledge.

Paranoid about water parameters use RO with added minerals for my water changes. More things to test the water with than a crazy chemist seem to spend the majority of my time worrying about ammonia, ph, calcium levels and terrified in case any of the live plants have been treated with copper ... very unlikely with the snail issues I have.

So in my tank at the moment are some chocolate, cherry, crystal and an amano plus some blacks and a variety of different blues.

Thank you Cesar

have sat here jumping from topic to topic trying to get up to speed think i have a loooooong way to go!

am ashamed to say I have a variety of shrimp dudes in my tank and have zero idea as to their specific species or cross species think that has to be on my hit list for today. The cherry, amano and the crystals in my tank I know but some of the others ...... well ...... hmmmm ....... Been looking in the gallery to see but everything seems to be in their scientific (latin) classification name so figuring out who is who is a tad hit and miss. More like a new kind of guessing game ...... not sure its going to be a best seller though ha ha ha!

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
