What is it and how to remove out of tank?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Please help me identify what is this species and how can I remove them out of my tank.

They are breeding a lot in my sulawesi tank.

Many thanks for your help.

Pond snail?

mini ramshorn. I have some  of these in my tanks. They are breeding like rabbits, and are more resistant to chemicals than the "regular" ramshorn.

In my discus tank, I have introduced a crab, and 2 Synodontis eupterus. It seems they are doing a good job, but I think that only assassin snail will be able to get rid of this pest, especially if you don't want to use chemicals (especially in a Sulawesi tank)

They are not snail. They can run or swim very fast

Oh, you mean the white tiny crustaceans? These are ostracods aka seed shrimps. Harmless. They just let you know your water tank is perfect, as they thrive in well balanced tanks

Yes, I know they are helpful for shrimp tank, but too lot will make the tank unsightly

I don't know of anything that can get rid of seed shrimp without also killing your Shrimp.

But there are options:

- Try siphoning them out with a hose during water changes.

- add a fish

I like ostracods! I too had many at one time and they may have been competing with babies for food. If you really want to get rid of them you could do as@jayc mentioned. It might also be possible to "trap" a bunch of them. I'm sure you'd end up with some shrimplets trapped too if there are many in your tank but you could seperate them afterwards.

I have used planaria trap and using shrimp food inside it, but the result is not perfect, may be I add some fish to kill it :)
