filtration question

Featured Replies

hi Guys,

i have an  AquaOne nano tank at work. the type that takes the slide in filter cartridges.

these tend to be clogging up fairly regularly and affecting the water flow into the second sump area. potentially damaging the heater and pump

i want is do away with these cartridges and replace them with a better media solution. filter sponge, bags of bio media/charcoal etc.

looking for a few ideas to what would work best. obviously i need to consider the water flow through this new solution

i also need to do something about lowering my pH, so if this can be combined with any suggestions that would be great. two birds. one stone and all that

Any pictures of the filter, so we can see what w are dealing with?

I found a youtube of the tank and filter. I see what you mean now.

Why don't you do the same as the guy in this vid. He got some coarse, med and fine foam cut to shape to fit the first chamber.

Pack lots of ceramic noodles into the 2nd chamber. The more the better. If you want to spend some money here, look into the Cermedia Marine Pure range - which has a much higher surface area for biological filtration than most other media types.

His chambers seen to be fairly equal size. That's the kind of idea I was looking at. Cheers. I've got some seachem matrix in a canister filter I'm not using. Will put some of that in one of the chambers too

bumping this to ask another related question.

i've got myself some sponges now. and ready to swap out the cartridges.

given i only have around 15 shrimp in there should i have to worry about the bacteria drop. or would it be fine to do a straight swap?

Since it's summer, you won't need the heater. Remove it and place the old cartridges in that space for a few weeks until the new sponge is matured.
