Hello, I'm new to shrimp and I'm still in the researching stage. I am an intermediate hobbyist with freshwater planted aquariums and right now I have a low tech 36 gallon bowfront with some easy plants that I'm looking to upgrade in the near future. I'm currently cycling my first nano aquarium that I attempted to aquascape and I think I want to make it a shrimp only tank because I don't want my pets to get eaten or be stressed into hiding in the larger aquarium. My concern is that my small tank will get overrun from them breeding and I don't know what I'd do with the surplus. Am I the only person who doesn't want to breed their shrimp? Anyways, I look forward to meeting all of you and learning more about this hobby!

Hello @soriondee,

welcome to SKF

Having surplus shrimp is a good problem to have.

You can sell them for some pocket money to keep your hobby going.

Welcome @soriondee :)

I recommend only keeping shrimp in a dedicated tank, if they will fit in a fish's mouth they will get eaten. However there is a great little fish called Otocinclus which are great algae eaters and very peaceful ( also known as dwarf sucker fish/catfish ). I keep them in my shrimp tanks and they are the only fish I ( and many others ) would keep with shrimp.
Surplus shrimp can be sold to keep you going as @jayc said :) It's an interesting and rewarding hobby. Welcome again !
