New here. My SO got into cherry shrimp in December and I kind of took over starting in March. Well, 'officially', in April, when I stole the majority of his shrimp out of his tank and put them in my tank! LOL

My SO currently has kuhli loaches and amanos, and we "share" cherry shrimp. There's a couple of yellow neos, too, plus yellow offspring. Well, I guess I should say that the shrimp are ours, as when he purchased the amanos, he only purchased two. Both females. (I encouraged him to get a couple rather than just a single shrimp) Shortly there-after, he decided that the girls needed a male, and brought home a third amano.

The females went through four molts (at least one prior to the male) before becoming berried, and now that the girls are berried, I can't "not" do nothing! (we only have freshwater aquariums) Well, this lead to the setup of a basic saltwater aquarium (play-sand, live rocks and a sponge filter) that is currently cycling. The girls are due in ~3-5 weeks, and my SO is already interested in adding corals and sexy shrimp to the grow-out/baby tank! ?

Welcome to SKF @Zoidburg. That seems to be what happens with most, You start with a few shrimp and next thing you know you have several shrimp tanks :p

Having your first berried girls and ultimately shrimplets is very exciting. You'll find a wealth of information here to help you along your way :)

Goodluck !

Thanks Jarad! :)

We've only had success breeding cherry shrimp since I've taken over the shrimp. When my SO originally got shrimp, he went to purchase one female, but got a freebie male, too. She berried, male 'disappeared', and only one baby survived - for about a month. Did add several more shrimp, could easily count 10+ berried females, but never really saw any offspring. Had two other babies survive for a few weeks, before also 'disappearing'. I think we had a combination of problems going, to include low GH and the tank being too "clean" (not enough biofilm), despite the tank having been set up for several months/years. (before I've known him) This being a 90+ planted tank with a weather/dojo loach and a bristlenose pleco as the other inhabitants. Kuhli loaches were added later and the dojo loach was removed.

I commandeered his 10 gallon tank and 15/20g stand and started setting up and cycling the tank. Didn't last long before I upgraded to a 20H (it fits the stand...) and started adding shrimp. Even got some remineralizer since the tap water is too low in GH. Although I didn't get the right remineralizer, the shrimp are at least thriving and reproducing now! Tons of babies!!!

We're looking to now sell the 90+ acrylic tank and replace it with either smaller glass tanks, or just a shorter glass tank. If replaced with a large, but short tank (I'm interested in at least a 50 long that's 18" w x 13" high), then it may be sectioned out so we can keep different shrimp species in there! LOL

NoGi, I do have pictures, but most of them are too big to upload! LOL I do have Photobucket, Flickr, FB and some other image hosting websites floating around... but have yet to upload any pictures! Which is sad, because I probably have around 1,000 images taken of the tanks.... Well, that's not completely true... but I think the ones I have uploaded are private and can't be made public... I'll get it done someday... ?

Zoidberg was the name of my SO's dojo loach. I decided to go with Zoidburg, as it's the name I have on another group. Not sure I can get my SO to join, and if he does, he may not choose a Futurama name! LOL
