Thanks NoGi.

Fairly new to Aquarium keeping and really new to shrimp keeping. Just purchased 20 Red Cherry Shrimp off gumtree and ended up with about 50 odd along with a stack of narrow leaf java fern. Acclimatized them and got them in my quarantine tank, then thought i better learn some more about them before i go any further.

The plan was to get them into my planted community after they have all checked out ok.

My first question to the SKF community would be to do with colour. I have some that are full red, some mottled red and some clear. If i put just the full red in the main aquarium and they breed would they still throw mottled and clear offspring? I'm pretty sure they would so that is more of a confirmation than a question.

The mottled and clear shrimps are low grade shrimps.

If you want to maintain the full red colouring in your shrimps, it is a good idea to cull (remove) the clear and mottled colours before they breed.

Thanks Jayc, that is what i thought. Got plenty of pure red ones to go in the main tank so i will donate the lower grades to my daughter. Now how do i make sure they are not impregnated before the move if they are not berried? Do they go berried and then get fertilized or the other way around?

Sorry if that is just to noob a question but just dont have time to research atm.

Ok scratch that question. Had a look on google and got the answer.

Thought i would use this thread to see if i can upload any photo's. It can get complicated some times.

First up a few of the berried females looked to have unloaded their eggs. I thought this was because of the stress of moving and new environment but this morning i got a milli second flash of what i thought was a baby. After staring into the tank for ages i managed to spot one on the heater.

Next is the only other clear shot i got.

Both shots are heavily cropped and the baby is a bit blurry.

Great spotting on the heater.

Welcome to SKF @Madmerv, Red cherry shrimp are a great way to enter the hobby :) I keep a colony of them in my sump/refugium and have ended up with some really nice ones thru selective breeding. They're easy to fall in love with and will lead to you collecting more exoctic shrimp.
Once again welcome and enjoy your stay :)
