Scentsy use ?

Featured Replies

Just a question I was curious about. I have Scentsy wax burners to use at home here.  They heat the wax up which provides nice smells to enjoy. Since I started keeping shrimp I have avoided using these for fear of hurting the shrimp.

Does anyone else here use this or something similar?  Just wondering if its safe to use or not.

Do you know the ingredients?

@NoGi  I dont know the ingredients so basically I googled this....guess I could have done this myself instead of posting it lol !

The thing is they keep their ingredients secret. There is  Paraffin wax,

"a petroleum by-product, is created during the process of refining crude oil into gasoline. When heated, paraffin wax releases the toxins acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, toluene, benzene and acrolein into the air, all of which have been proven to increase your risk for cancer. "......

So maybe I wont be using this product much anymore.... lol !

Lol yeah given we are more tolerant than shrimp probably not a bad idea.

Paraffin seems to be in a huge number of cosmetic products .. Tis a bit concerning really.

Beauty first health later seems to be the way of things these days.

Anyway, a good thing to watch out for if you keep sensitive shrimp.

Nothing conclusive but I don't think anyone here wants to be the first to try it out with their tanks. [emoji6]

Nice to smell however a petroleum by product, for instance if paraffin from candles fumes are inhaled the following is possible: nausea, vomiting, headaches etc.

I would steer clear in using this near shrimp tanks, I would not like to see my shrimp swimming around with a head ache or stopping to vomit in the tank.

Realistically unsure what it would do to shrimp as @NoGi states "nothing conclusive". It would all depend on the shrimp setup, air driven, sump setup, HOB filter etc etc.

Hey guys i thought id chime in here and say that i compromised with the mrs to stop spraying smelly crap and to use the scentsys. Although it is in the lounge room and my tank is around the corner in the dining room iv noticed no ill affect on my shrimp and its going most days. It's probably 4m away from the tank. I never really looked into the ingredients though and its starting to make me think twice now lol
