inert black substrate

Featured Replies

Does anyone have recommendations for nice-looking inert black substrate? Looking to use this for future cherry/tiger tanks.

NZ iron sand is looking good so far!

I was in a pinch with no time to wait for online delivery: I bought black quarts from Petbarn and I am very pleased with it as it reflects the light nicely and it is inert. Not near as fancy as the NZ iron sand though- that would have been first prize!

I use iron sand but find it looks more dark grey than black. The proper shrimp soils are hard to go past if you want something that is truely black.

Black diamond blasting sand it's cheap and looks great.

I use the Pisces NZ iron sand and haven't had any issues with bloody marry, DAS, Typus and Tang tiger
