Food to avoid

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Is there any food/ specific leaves or plants that we should not feed to the shrimps? I'm hoping to feed various leaves or herbs from my garden to my shrimps if possible...

Thanks,

VB

H @VBSeeWee

you'd want to have a read of the following posts ...

Make sure you read right through it, as I talk about some flowers/plants to avoid.

And this pinned post will also give you an idea of the many types of fruit and veg that can be fed.

Thank you, jayc! I did come across the first link you mentioned, but didn't notice the full list of food to avoid. Both links are useful for my reading tonight! I briefly saw the basil flower is fine to feed, but how about the basil leaves? I'll read to find out from the links tonight. But if it's not mentioned, can you please let me know if that's ok? Thanks :)

High protein yes..

NOT protein as steak (red MEAT) as mention above by few members.

Reason shrimp graze on plants, gravel, tank glass for biofilm and algae they can not digest the red meat(unlike the cray fish/crab).

High protein(red meat)will only lead to shrimps death, food are not broken down causing stress & unwanted immature shedding of the hard shell (Carapace)

Main reasons y shrimps owner have to blanch/freeze the leaves (ie. mulberry, bannana, gauva leaves) before feeding. The Blanching process actually helps deteriorate &break down the leaves.

The shrimps digest the leaves easier, this will minusing the stress which lead to shrimp death.

All shrimps digestive system are very sensitive.

(Nomatter which shrimp u have-CRS is heaps more sensitive with water param, temp.

As for the RCSwhich can be more forgiving in these areas.;sometimes)
