new soil added to tank

Featured Replies

I have had a tank cycling for 6 weeks and have just put some soil in how long will it be ok to add shrimp to the tank after adding soil the soil has been in another tank for 6 months. Is it ok to add shrimp as soon as the soil settles or wait a few weeks and do some water tests again before i add the shrimp. Shrimp will be crs

The correct time for adding shrimp (or any livestock) totally depends on your water parameters.

You really need to test it. Check that Ammonia, Nitrite is zero before adding any shrimp.

They type of soil used will also determine how long it takes to cycle.

ADA amazonia for example can take a couple of months or more before it is cycled.

What substrate have you used?
