Brown Flecks on my Sponge Filter

Featured Replies

I know this is probably a stupid question lol but I have only had my Red Cherry Shrimp setup for about a month, so Im still learning.

Anyways, Im currently running a dual sponge filter and everything has been great but recently there have been these brown flecks showing up on my filter and on my rocks.  Ive been sucking them up whenever I see them but the next day there right back again.  Is it a bug or something?  Is it something that I should be worried about?

Thanks!!

I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right thing, but those brown flecks don't look like a bug.

Do you only have RCS in the tank? No fish?

I only have RCS in there and an Otto.

Somebody mentioned that its most likely just shrimp poop, if thats the case then man do they poop a lot for being so small lol.

Oh yes they poop. Great plant fertiliser!

My tank is about 40% planted and growing, so thats great news, thanks guys.
