something weird is happening to my yellow cherries: I received few yellow shrimplets who were almost nice. They were getting yellow and yellow  while aging... then turn clear

They gave birth to shrimplets who are yellow too, but I'm afraid they will turn pale like the parents when aging...

Anyone  breeding yellows whoo can share experience on colors?

From my experience they seem to go pale when the lights are turned off and when I turn the lights back on they slowly regain their colour. However, this appears most in males. Could it be possible they are getting close to a moult too? Mine seem to go a little transparent when this happens.

 

 

Well, mines are very pale, light on or off. Very disappointing :(

were they like that originally when you received them? If not I get the feeling it maybe due to tank parameters or perhaps a lack of a nutrient in their food. I am sure the more experience guys will be able to tell you.

When they arrived, as juveniles, they were almost yellow, and grow showing a nice yellow color. Then when aging, they slowly turn paler. Now they are almost light yellow, and so ere their shrimplets & juvies.

Those are the only one losing thei color. The others, blue pearls, orange, and the red cherries are showing very nice colours, especially the red cherries who breed like crazy and produce very nice offsprings from sakura to painted grade.

All my shrimps tanks are set using the same spring water, they are given the same food.

That is really odd to me

I had just had a male moult and his colour was almost clear too, before that he was a nice yellow. The only real problem I have ever had with YCS is one I am kinda currently having now and that is I have a few female saddled YCS and they just refuse to moult, no idea why but everything else in the tank is moulting. I reckon it has been at least 3 months since there last moult, hence no berried shrimp.

Cherries can go clear when lights are off. It's probably a camouflage thing.

Cherries can also go clear during the day if stressed. -> Check your water parameters. Maybe Nitrates are building up. 

I did not have this molting problem.

Though, on the 1st lot I had, (6 females 4 males) I lost 2 females and 2 males. The rest has been growing and molting fine. In this lot, 1 female only turned witish, the others stay yellow. I had the females berried 2 times, but not a single shrimplet :(

On this second lot, from same seller, I lost abour half of the shrimps received (long trip from California), the others grow fine but rapidely turn witish. Though, I have berried femels which hatched successfully.
In the F1 juveniles, some female are already building saddles... Problem is that they are almost clear too :(

@Matuva I agree with @jayc a lot of this colouration could and most likely is down to water parameters. Shoot them through when you get a chance and then we can have a clearer picture.

I have to third this opinion. I've been keeping ycs for 10 months and their colour fades dramatically with the slightest water quality issues. i found that my ycs colour became better when i reduced feeding frequency

Definitely check your water parameters ad post them here.

I've got yellows as well, and they are hardy but not as bulletproof as reds.

Berried females but no shrimplets implies water parameter issues causing them to die when moulting.
