Not my usual response to seeing spawning behaviour, eggs or fry but this evening it was a bit more of a Oh crap moment when I saw my angels just proved they are a pair. Yep after the sudden cooler change and drizzle we had today after hot, humid and seemingly never ending dry weather my angels spawned. They have certainly gone all out and layed a heap of eggs and are now guarding them from the guppy hordes that the angels where origianally purchased to curtail the fry of.

It probably sounds wrong but I sort of hope this spawning fails (and I hope they don't go onto to do what some people say they will of spawning every 7-10days in future), I like the angels but I really am not set up to be dealing with their breeding mood swings, let alone potentially more babies than even my bristlenoses produce.

The black calico I am pretty sure is the male and the mostly white with a bit of orange and black the female. The log they chose is the preferred home of a typhus shrimp just to make things more interesting.

That's got to be the most unusual response to fish spawning.

You could always give the fry away or sell it to your nearest LFS.

Usually I am always happy to see the spawning activities, surprise eggs and even better small fry emerging in a tank, but I literally have no room to try and raise a heap of angel fry. The tank the parents have bred in is actually one of my biggest tanks (200 L) already which gets used as a grow out tank for BN fry. While also housing excess peppered corydoras (thanks to my peppered corys being fantastic little breeders) and the outcome of the guppy breeding project where we are aiming for some set characteristics.

My nearest pet shop (we don't have any dedicated fish shops around here the closest would be in Brisbane 8-9 hrs away one way) probably would take any young angels but I would have to grow them to a decent size (well beyond 50cent piece size) before they would even look at taking them off my hands. And the growing out and continued spawning of the parents is what would cause me grief. So while it is exciting and in a way a pleasant surprise to see that my angels are happy enough to breed, the realities of them being successful parents puts a dampner on it.

LOL, yup these 100 or so babies were an accident.

I think these too bunked off from school and thought they would run their own sex education class, that or the spawning corydoras and constantly breeding guppies gave them some ideas.
