Pond Snails

Featured Replies

I've always viewed pond snails in two lights useful in some ways but incredibly annoying due to their population explosions.

Close up they are actually quite beautiful as well.

They can look pretty cool, but I've never really liked them.

Wild caught pond snails can be a host for certain lifestages of parasitic worms, particularly those infecting sheep and cattle and birds. the worms can apparently infect humans as well. It pays to wash your hands after playing in the aquarium.

Snails are pretty scary for that reason! Rat lung worm comes to mind...... Yuck !

However you'd never eat a vegetable again and you'd certainly triple wash all lettuce if you thought about it too much. There are more parasitic life forms than non parasites on the planet. On that note I'm off to have a wash..... In bleach :p
