    You might not be able to get it to dissolve 100%, but that's okay. Give it a good shake before use, and whatever residue that goes into the tank will dissolve slowly in the tank. Just put enough into your change water to match the desired TDS.

    yes, gypsum can be known as plaster of paris. No, chalk is usually calcium carbonate. I don't like using these common names, as often it can be mixed up and labelled in correctly.

    Note that using just RO water will also drop the TDS and GH of the aquarium, as well as the KH!
