Do you have any fish in the tank with your shrimp? Lost legs and claws on a shrimp can grow back with time, unless it has lost all of it's legs & claws. In which case, it can't move or eat.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll do a water and substrate change. I reckon there are only about 20 shrimp left in the tank and I'm sure I did a complete water change quite recently, certainly in the last 6 months. I use RO water and add minerals to suit, maybe I've overdone that. The KH is definitely 9, to be honest, I don't even know what that means. I'll give it my best shot and see what happens, everything crossed! We've had loads of damage up here with the first storm but I was lucky to get off lightly, just some glass and a ridge tile. The second storm didn't hit us as hard as the first.

I did get some affins but that’s all and yeah it’s just the one that I can see I’ll have another real good look today. And get a picture as well. Thanks for getting back to me. No the storms didn’t effect us just a little wet as per usual at this time of year.

I have heard sometimes a shrimp may lose a leg etc when moulting, and this is often because the water parameters are off! Check your water parameters and is it just one shrimp that you can see this has happened too! As JayC states, they usually grow back, as long as it can move around and eat. If you can get a photo that may help. Did you get any fish in the end? Hope the recent storms didn't cause you any problems!

That is a small tank so I would guess the tds rise may be down to evaporation, you could just keep a 1L bottle of RO water (TDS 000) next to the tank and do the top up with that which should keep the tds more level as it will dilute it. Evaporation is purely water and everything else (tds) remains in the tank! The breeding may be down to the tank just being fully stocked (though it is also likely the parameters are an issue) as any environment can only sustain so much/many creatures, how many shrimp do you think you have in this 15L tank? The best parameters for neocaridina are, PH 6.5-7.5, TDS 150-250, GH 6-8, KH 1-4. Your parameters seem a bit weird so I am guessing you aren't using RO water with shrimp remineraliser? Or you have something raising your KH as 9 is crazy high??? Maybe recheck that one! If you do reset the tank as per JayC you will need to do a long drip acclimate before putting the shrimp back in to the tank as the water parameters should be so different from the water they are currently in! It may be a good idea to to clean and start again at this point but bear in mind doing such may mean you will lose some shrimp due to the extreme parameter difference. I hope you weren't too affected by the recent storm!

I’ve got quite a few shrimp now everything has been going great until just now. I noticed one of the female shrimp has lost legs and claws I’m not expecting it to live long however I don’t know what has caused it and if it’s a disease or fungus I’ll try and get a picture of it in the morning. Does anyone have any ideas to what it is???

So I’ve done a really good check of all the shrimp and it was just that one that had issues from what I can see. When I checked her this morning she was on her back and an hour later she was dead so i removed her to get a picture to show and left it in a jug while I did other stuff it must have been an hour when I realised I hadn’t flushed the dead one anyways I had noticed that on the other side of the shrimp had started turning red as you can see from the picture. Do you think it’s anything to be concerned about.
