Hi all, Finally got my first crystal red babies and i'm just wondering what is the best way to feed them? I see them grazing on the subwassertang and the sponge filter but want to give them the best chance. I have some glasgarten AE and Shrimp baby. what would be the best feeding routine? How often should i feed? I have a 60L tank with maybe around 10-15 adults and so far i've seen 4 babies although the female is still berried. Thanks.

That looks like blue-green algae, Cyanobacteria. It does quite quickly all across your aquarium and is extremely hard to get out. I recommend taking that piece of hornwort out (or at least trimming that part off), and maybe looking into how to get rid of it if it does start spreading more.

Ok I have a 8 gallon tank I want to use as a breeding tank.... the issue is it has a built in filter and the slits are big enough for shrimp to slip through.... infact some did. The filter is off because of this issue. Does anyone have a idea on how I should block the slits off? I’m unsure how to add a picture with my Apple iPad... or I would

That isn't actually a filter, but just a pump to get the water up to the top I think, or is there sponge in the top box? I can't see anywhere specifically for a filter? All you need is a large piece of sponge (not too fine though) to fill the smaller back right section, that goes from top to bottom (you only need the bottom half but that makes it difficult to remove the sponge for maintenance), and therefore stops the shrimps going through the slits and acts as a filter as well. I think I got cheap sponge on ebay or amazon and cut it to size for mine. You may need to turn the speed of the pump down (-) if you can. You will probably need to remove the sponge once a week so that the slits don't get clogged and keep an eye on the water levels in the rear sections as that will drop, the more clogged the sponge is! If you are using a heater it would be best in the actual tank due to the altering water levels in the back??? The shrimp will still go to those bottom right slits as detritus will collect there. Well I’m a new shrimp keeper. I now have 40 shrimp from a red rili cull a breeder was selling. What I’m hoping to do is let them spawn in my 8 gallon and pull out the worse to go down to my community tank to become a cleaning crew and keep breeding the best offspring. Now the females don’t look like rili at all they are full body red.... but I heard that rili came from the red cherry? The males I believe look like rili but probably low grade.....so my question to you all besides buying high grade rili how can I improve this line? I’m not planning to go into a breeding business this will just be a hobby for me.

The community tank has a nice ball of Java for shrimp to hide and graze.... I won’t be surprised if a few shrimplets eventually grow in the tank.... although if my danios layer eggs in it (which I be surprised if they didn’t) none so far survived...

Congratulations, the female is probably still in the birthing process. I use a pin to feed powdered food. I dip about 5mm into the water to wet the pin (you will need to adjust this as the population grows), then dip the pin into the powder (quickly so as to not get too much), then swish the pin in a big circle in the tank - as you have a large tank I would do this twice, once either end of the tank. As long as you don't wet too much of the pin I would do this every 2 days or so! Newborn shrimp tend to eat biofilm mainly, so I also use the bacter AE you already have, once a week (twice when there are an abundance of shrimp down the line)! The bacter AE I do as the powdered food method above, except use an old shrimp lolly stick (old matchstick would do) wet about 1cm and do that 3 times in different areas of the tank! Simon

It will just be a case of keeping the best ones and putting the unwanted low quality ones in the fish tank and see how it goes, it will depend on the genes the shrimp carry and that will also depend on prior generations/lieage etc! I keep neocaridina in my tanks with fish and they are fine, though I am sure some young shrimp become food for the fish. The lower quality ones in with the fish will probably have offspring that revert back to wild type (clear or brown) so won't be so easy for the fish to see? Simon

This be the community tank I put the culls in. there’s danios, neons, cories and guppies but plenty of hiding places. I think they be fine....it’s probably lot better then the breeding tank but high risks for shrimplets being possibly eaten.

It’s in built in the back. I’m unsure if a sponge do the trick... I would take a picture but I keep getting 1003.52kb error message....I thinking maybe going to Michael and get a plastic mash....I have to do this soon because one of my shrimp is berried.......

Also I hope they smart enough to find a way out ... My small net only fits in one part of the internal filter which is frustrating... which will become a issue when I do figure out a way to block it and need to get the shrimp out....
