Hopefully it may sort itself out on its own. If it looks like you can get the old shell off fairly easily I would probably give it a go though whilst the shell is still fairly soft! Your GH looks perfect, the TDS on the low side but not to a point that would worry me too much, and obviously if you increase the TDS that will almost certainly increase the GH also! I probably wouldn't worry too much if this is the one and only shrimp to have this problem but wait and see if it happens again before changing anything like parameters.. Simon

Yeh its funny we haven't noticed any berried females, but maybe they are hiding during this phase? - there is plenty of places in this tank to go unseen- I was freaking out because a couple of shrimp had died and I thought it was going to fail as a shrimp colony, but I have noticed recently that there are a lot of shrimp out and about and have been regularly counting five, six or even seven visible at one time.. so that combined with the appearance of a few really tiny guys (I am sure that they are smaller than the juveniles I put in originally) has me quietly confident that it is all onwards and upwards from here.

Hey JayC! ? there are only two shrimp (I think) - the point of my photo was to show that the one on the left is much smaller than the one on the right!

That photo could be used for a "Spot the baby shrimp" competition. I can maybe see one or two but that's it.

I think there are babies !! Its a bit hard to tell from the photo here but there are some really tiny shrimp appearing in the tank. Also I am counting up to 7 visible at any one time - and including my loses I should have been down to 5... so I think they are breeding:) Its so very exciting. There are even some tiny fire reds in my wife's tank so we have been really lucky I think. Have a great day all sub

Yeah, it's unfortunate fishmosy isn't active anymore. He has a lot of knowledge that would have been useful. However, I would suggest you give it a go. Build a tank specifically for the shrimp you manage to catch. When you do succeed in catching some, make a note of the location and date. If you are ever successful enough to release any, you have a record of the location. Also bring your test kit to check on the water parameters where the shrimps were caught. Test pH, temperature, GH, KH, TDS. Those are the key ones. Make sure your tank parameters match this water exactly, as wild caught shrimps will adapt better if the parameters match. Start collecting rain water in plastic rain water tanks. You're going to need it for water changes. Don't even consider using tap water.

Hello folks, I have a Taiwan Bee shrimp that is a bit over a year old by now. Today it had a partial molt where it got the head part off just fine but the tail segment is still on. It seems to be loosely hanging on over its back, except for the tail fan part, where the shrimp tail fins are tucked in (scrunched together) from being pulled partially out of the shell. Since it seems to be able to move and swim around just fine, I may leave it alone for now while it is still soft and vulnerable. But at some point, should I "assist" in trying to get it off? And maybe before the new shell gets deformed. Otherwise, it will be like [graphic imagery warning] trying to poop with its pants on. The water parameters and GH 5 TDS 100 and I feed the shrimp alternately Bacter AE, spinach, mulberry, Shrimp king pellet food (rotate between Complete, Mineral, Protein). Does any of this need changing, e.g. higher or lower GH? Or maybe this is just a symptom of a shrimp getting old?
