Had to read your post crabby a few times, but I got it in the end. My tap water is 30TDS per GH so there must be 12 TDS of other stuff for every GH in the water. That makes sense! Also get what you are saying JayC, it is just how I wanted to show there is other UNKNOWN stuff in tap water so the GH1 and TDS17.9 is NEVER going to happen with tap water, as it won't only have magnessium and calcium in it? It works in my head but maybe I have confused the issue putting it that way? Simon

I think Simon that beanbag meant the GH reading is too high for what the TDS is reading. If you have 14 degrees of GH, and every degree is worth 18ppm, you have 252ppm of GH. TDS includes your GH in addition to a bunch of things, as you pointed out. So it is not possible (if you are getting the correct readings) to have readings like that - where you have more parts per million of GH than you have TDS - as the GH should be less than the value of the TDS. If that makes sense.

2 weeks... is that with ammonia? Or extra beneficial bacteria? Cuz leaving a tank for 2 weeks with nothing producing or consuming ammonia won't cycle it. You also should probably get more tests. pH is a must. GH and KH are quite necessary for shrimps too. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate will not be as crucial for shrimp as they would be for fish, but still a good idea to have. Maybe at about 7-8 months old. Your shrimp look really young. Also I would second this. They look about a month or 2 old. They might start breeding a couple months into next year? For now just try to make sure they survive (and thrive!) in their new home.

I was hoping that they were harmless nematodes and would make good food for the future Kuhli loaches.

Hi guys, I'm guessing phosphates are bad for shrimp?? I'm keen to learn so any more info you can give me about this would be great! Yes Simon, I've got my fingers crossed too. I'm tentatively hopeful and I will certainly let you know what happens. Thanks for your input, it's always appreciated, and it's great to know that there are people out there who can and do help when we have problems. That goes for you too Jayc. Cheers guys

Maybe at about 7-8 months old. Your shrimp look really young. When they are new to a tank, they usually hide. But they should be exploring soon. If they continue hiding, then there might be something wrong with the environment. Just make sure that the tank has been properly cycled. This tank looks very new, have you cycled the tank? RO for drinking removes all dissolved solids, but add Alkalinity back in because humans should not be drinking acidic water that has 0 minerals. You can use this RO system, IF you remove the Alkaline filter. Otherwise this is the wrong water to be used.

Unfortunately I did what you suggested and this is what I found ? I'm gutted.
