I purchased this shrimp with a group of amano shrimp... yeah.. pretty sure it's not. Doesn't behave the same as the others, and is huge. Like just under 3 inches from head to tail and its front "legs" are another inch and a quarter long. Any ideal what he is?

Oops. I meant snails... not snakes.. lol

Giving up on shrimps in this tank setup, if there are any that survive they can stay but tomorrow I am expecting fish delivery, 6 mosquito rasbora, 6 dwarf spotted rasbora and 2 bluefin notho killifish and they will go into the tank instead! I will try and get a photo soon! Quite looking forward to the change! Simon

Hello, I decided to give breeding nerite snails a shot and set up a 1 gallon brackish tank. I slowly salinated it with Reef salt to Approx 1.005 gravity. I started it with cycled shrimp and snail tank water and have it planted with duckweed and a little hornwort. My four nerite snails have primarily Stayed out of the water or halfway out of the water line and haven’t moved too much all week. i am worried they are not healthy in the water conditions, but unsure why. I’ve also noticed a white cloudy layer of the water (partially undissolved salt? Or some kind of bad microbial growth/film?) i need to check the water parameter again to see if something is off (Ammonia spike?), but I don’t know what else I might be missing. Anyone who knows about nerites, please let me know if there are any concerns I should know about. thanks.

Params sound okay imo, not sure if the plants will survive long but worth a try with those cheap plants. Thing on the top will probably be a layer of protein if you aren’t running a filter or skimmer (I would be blown away if you were running a skimmer on a 1 gal though ?). Really wanted to do this myself, eager to see how it turns out for you! If you can do it I might have to set up a new tank and try. Good luck!

Greetings shrimpers, I have noticed some grey-white fuzz growing on a section of the cholla wood I have in my tank. The cholla was well boiled and has been in there for almost a year. The parameters are pretty good, no perceivable nitrates or nitrites (according to my own read of API strips). I have a canister filter way too powerful for tank size, so it doesn’t get too funky. Though, I have recently gradually shifted from typical neocardinis parameters to a lower-end TDS/pH/KH to accommodate caridina shrimp. I’ve currently got neos and Corys in there. I used to have CPOs that mysteriously started dying (so I relocated them) and snails. Perhaps I should bring the snails back? Any thoughts on this mildewy stuff? Harmless? Thanks.

Should be harmless. Just the usual fungus that grows on wood.

It's definitely not an amano. The claws (chelae) give it away. It depends where it has come from. It's definitely a juvenile and a Macrobrachium of some type. Too many varieties to pin point it specifically. Just make sure you don't keep it with Neocaridina or Caridina shrimps, cause that thing will hunt down and eat other small shrimp.

25% is a bit too much for normal water changes, where stability is the key. But in this circumstance, where we are trying to resolve an issue, it's fine. Just make sure you match the current parameters in the tank and add it back in slowly, don't dump the whole lot in at once. Drip feed the new water back in if you can. Otherwise, just add it back in slowly over the span of an hour.

Are you an experienced shrimp keeper or fish keeper? I think if it is a machro then maaaybe @northboy could identify it for you? Again not sure just trying to help so you can make the adjustments necessary for it, because of course shrimp all have different behaviours and requirements. Could I ask are the shrimp in with fish?

I'm in arizona usa. Yeah. I was shocked it was in with the amanos at petco. I really like him. But have no ideal what he is.

To me it looks similar to a ‘long armed shrimp’ or machrobrachium, definitely not an amano. I would say 100% machrobrachium if you were in Australia, not sure about their availability worldwide in comparison to other non-Australian long armed shrimp.

Aa you say Simon, the Amazonia in this tank is super old, probably close to 5 years, and I used tap water almost the entire time. It would've lost any buffering capacity yonks ago. Anyway, I bought a new ADA Mini M the other day ? I'll take my time setting it up over the next few months then transfer all the CRS in.

Sorry... I missed that u uploaded it to a site. I'll check that out. Have a good day. Sorry about that!

Hi, you may not need any more advise on this as it's been a mo th, but I'd be interested in seeing the video if u still have it. I downloaded a photo compressor to attach my photos, I'm sure there are video and file compressor apps too. Let me know if ur able to upload that video, I'd be interested to see what it is and looks like

Any idea if 25% water change is harmful?
