Hi all, back after a long 2 year break from the forum. Wanted to share a photo of my 70 litre CRS tank, all going well, pretty much haven't touched the tank since setting it up, just adding plants to it and that's it after it cycled. Have about 50 odd CRS, started with 10 I think from memory, don't seem to really have large numbers when breeding. Only issues I really have are snails, since adding the frogbit I have had a load of snails in the tank, need to get rid of them, I also have some trouble with Blackbeard Algae, mainly from the LED being too close to the tank I think, need to find something to give the LED a greater distance from the tank, other than that, all is well.

The water condition is not right, and the light is too strong.

Up to now I only see 3 babies, it come from a black galaxy pinto, but the babies look like CRS, i'll probably have to wait for them to get bigger to see what they look like. Right now i'm setting up a new tank, I have ordered a custom tank, with a under tank filteration setup.

No, the by product is water. So not dangerous to the fish and shrimp. It will increase oxygen in the water as well. But of course, you'd spray it directly at the livestock.

Just make sure it is 3% H2O2. use it in a spray bottle and spray the BBA or Green Hair Algae directly, either under water out out of the water. More effective out of water of course.

Hey beanbag, do you think that would work for blackbeard too? I have BBA basically lining the edges of all my plants and all up my driftwood, but it's really tough to get rid of and I don't particularly want to risk using algaecides with shrimp and fry in my tank.

Are your lights on a timer and how many hours is it on for? Can you test your water for Nitrates? Take that driftwood out and boil it to kill the algae for a quick fix.

Try bee pollen. I use that to feed baby shrimps in rotation with other powdered foods. If you don't use it up, heck, it's good for humans to eat too! You can find many on ebay. Spirulina is good too, as Simon mentioned.

I haven't had a problem using the chi ebi WHEN I had baby shrimps but not got back to that stage yet (I am still using it a bit even with no babbies) as we are approaching the end of winter! I'm not sure how you get clumps of it if it's a powder, I use a tooth pick (or similar) dipped about 5mm into tank water, quickly dip it into the powder, knock excess off and then swirl it round the tank. Now I do have assassin snails in the tanks as well so they may get any bits that the shrimp don't! I haven't used the glasgarten myself, though I had it on my 'to try' list, but as long as you don't use too much! It is more difficult though the larger the tank, as the shrimplets need to find the food and don't move far when very young. I wanted to try bee pollen but haven't yet got back to that point yet and I haven't found it easy to get here? I would imagine the spiulina would be fine, I use that to feed daphnia when I have them, but again I use the same way of adding it to the tank. There may be no need for additional food though if you have plenty of biofilm as that must be what they naturally eat so lots of leaves are a good platform for that and you are already using the bacter ae!
