Mine is a DIY Chiller, as you know a peltier has a hot side and cold side, for the cold side to stay cold, the hot side must be kept cold and with a heatsink and fan to cool it down. My DIY chiller has two sides and two water block. blue aluminum block with tube leading to the outlet of the canister filter and back to the tank to chill the tank water. copper block is to cool the hot side of the peltier, with copper block to the radiator/fan and a water pump looping. The problem is the tube from the water pump came off, apparently the plastic from the pump started to melt and the tube came off and the looping side had no water, so the copper water block stayed hot all the time with heat transferred to the cold side of the peltier also heating the water. since the copper takes time to cool down, most of the heat and the room hot temp had already heat the tank water to about 45 C.

I'm using the API master test kit with the dropper bottles. I was just very confused at how much more akaline the water was coming out of the filter compared to the water out in the open. I can't imagine how this fluctuating change in pH is going to be beneficial for my crs.

I am trying to work out/understand whether the controller, if using an adaptor so the heater AND cooler were plugged in to it, that would have stopped the overheating by disconnecting the power to the cooler, (and the heater) or am I missing something as I don't use a controller (or a cooler, yet). The tank may then still have overheated if it was a really hot day though! It may be one of those, in theory it works but practice not? I will probably get some sort of cooler for next summer but probably just get the fan set that attaches to the top of the tank for the few days it may be needed! Simon

It normal for.the heat to go back to the tank, the copper block is suppose to absorb the heat and take it hot water to the radiator with the fan to cool the heat, since the tube came off, the heat goes back to the block which is suppose to carry the cool water to the tank.

Greetings shrimpkeepers, I have a 10 gallon tank in my basement. It gets very cool down there, especially in the winter. Right now the tank is unheated. I have some neos in there that seem to be doing alright. I would like to heat the tank but not have to constantly adjust for temperature fluctuations. Can anyone recommend any automatic/adjustable aquarium heaters that will adjust as needed to a preset temperature? If so, please let me know.

I use cheap no name brand heaters now. I use them with my Inkbird temp controller, so I don't have to worry about the heater failing. ✌️

? Oh no !!! ? At least you still have the micro crabs and 3 red wines.

Agree on what jayc said, it's best to get a branded one for reliablitity, but even branded one do have a differences in temperature, +- .5 to 1 degree celcius which is normal.

Most aquarium heaters have a built in thermostat, that will heat when the temp drops 1degree below the set temp and stop heating when the temps hit 1 degree above the set temp. So get one from Eheim, Fluval, Aqua One, Aquael, Hydor, to name a few brands. https://www.thetechden.com.au/Eheim_Jager_Heater_25w_p/jg3611.htm or https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Submersible-Glass-Aquarium-Heater/dp/B0027VMPXA/ref=lp_19171761011_1_23?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1568762295&sr=1-23 Depending on where you are from. A temperature controller like the one kms posted is good as a backup protection for the built in thermostat in cheap aquarium heaters. And it can be used on heaters that do not have built in thermostats. Just make sure you buy one that is a suitable size for your tank. A 25W or 50W will be enough.

there are plenty online and amazon, just search for aquarium thermostat heater, also you can search for a temperature controller, it also doubles as protection. the heater connect to the controller and power will turn off/on according to your setting. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32847930414.html?spm=2114.13010708.0.0.3a994c4dC7Ca7o

Update on my shrimp tank, all my shrimps died last week, my tubing on the cooler came off, and the cooler was running dry, heating the shrimp tank upto 45 degree celcius, the tube came off the pump as the hot water melted pump in/outlet. I have now used a pump with metal in/outlet. Right now I have 22 micro thai crabs and 3 Red Wine. the few days the Red Wine was kind of scared of the crabs, and always at the top part of the tank, now its ok, the shrimps are back at the bottom.
