I decided to take some pictures of some of my black cherry shrimp, they still are not 100% stable since I am still taking out the occasional pale wild type and dark brown/ chocolate as well as the odd one that has a black body with only a spot of brown on its head or brown stripe down its back. Quite a few of the blacks seem to have a bluish under carriage eg around the legs but overall I am pretty pleased with these guys and happy that apparently Pacific Blue Eyes don't eat cherry shrimp and nor it seems do whiptails (well the species I have don't seem to any way). Notice the brown/ chocolate behind the black. Also excuse the green spots on the glass the nerites have been a little slack.

Ok it looks like if I am quick at locating the pictures that I want to post the site will merge the pictures from two posts into one, which is better than having to post one pic at a time. Can the top broken photo bucket links be edited out?

It will but pH being so low is slowing down the tank cycling. How accurate is that pH reading? Was it from a liquid test kit or a pH meter? pH dropping is normal during cycling. When pH drops that low during the cycling phase, just perform a water change, say 50%, with dechlorinated Tap Water. Assuming your tap water is like most peoples in cities, where the pH is ~7.6 - 8.0. The tap water will give it a bit of a KH boost as well. This usually happens when you use RO water to cycle a tank. KH is already low with RO water. When the cycling process kicks in, you'll find KH being stripped and pH drops. Cycling with treated tap water is a better idea. When cycling is complete you can perform a final water change with RO water adjusted to the required parameters before adding shrimp/fish.

Just had to add some other pictures of my beauties besides the big girl. Doing a good job of blending in with the snails Same shrimp just moved to a better photo op. Loving this black and white girl who came out of the log for the food feast And big girl again, the green ball of algae she is on is a type of green hair algae that keeps cropping up in my tanks, apparently nobody likes eating it but love picking through it. A nicely coloured up youngen solid with back stripe Another solid colour with tan back stripe Just hanging out, a DAS and ??? could be a juvi anything

I would have thought most creeks with flowing water around the place would have some sort of shrimp? Just make sure it's not in a protected forest. There are a couple in the western suburbs opposite Jindalee State School where I used to catch those wild guppies from, I wonder if they have shrimp. It's been 20 years since I've been down at that creek but I might go for a wander at some stage. The creek is fed from the Brisbane river so probably brackish.

There's been numerous queries/discussions on mischling's so I thought I'd start a thread for all members to discuss, and share their experiences...etc Mischlings are a "shrimp" category describing a TB (Taiwan Bee - King Kong, Blue Bolt & Wine Red) x with a CRS/CBS/GB (Golden Bee)/SW (Snow White). Breeders will often cross their TB with a CRS/CBS/GB/SW to introduce the TB gene's into their stock, just in case disaster hits, plus it multiplies their probability of TB shrimplets etc.....Minchlings are then used to x back to a TB, which will result in a % of TB off it's shrimplets. Mischling x Mischling won't neccesarily produce any TB....my personal experience extends to F3 generation, and to date, this has not resulted in any TB's. I've been told that a F5/F6 mischling still does not produce any TB's. Hobbyist keen to take the next step to TB's should really purchase a TB 1st, x with their existing stock to create mischling's, then once they are confident, can either purchase more TB's to x back to their mischlings, or if budget and tank permits, purchase more then 1 x TB, and get their TB colony happening sooner. Purchasing mischling's should always be done with a reputable breeder, or one that can show and proof that the mischling did come from a TB cross. Pics of some CBS/CRS minchlings ....they tend to look like lower grade or washed out CRS/CBS, although I have some minchlings that actually look quite good, so it's difficult to ascertain whether you're actually buying a low grade CRS/CBS or a minchling .... unfortunately, there will be people out there that will take advantage of this.... Any other experiences, thoughts, queries appreciated, as it seems to be frequently queried ....

Not too many snakes at night. The eels are more scary. They just pop up out of nowhere and are inquistive buggers, so come check you out if you are splashing about. Its not their bite I worry about, its just the feel of their slimy body hitting into your legs in the dark. The worst thing is they are never where you expect them. Deep pools - nah. shallow pools less than a foot deep - yep. A metre plus in length. Yep.
