Hello SKF. I have never owned or held shrimp before, but i have been inspired alot by ecospheres, or very basic shrimp enclosures. I would love to make a tank, which is mostly self independant (like a small ecosystem), that also means that i would love to be without filter. But im in a need of some knowledge first. Do you guys have any advice? My thoughts so far: A bowl or something like that as the tank. A lamp for heat/light Let my tank cycle for a couple of weeks before adding shrimp. Plants, am i fine taking some from my local pond? Also, do i need a source of algae first? Like a mossball. Substrate, again, am i fine taking some from my local pond? Also, what kind of substrate? Gravel, dirt? At last the shrimp, what kind? Is theyre saltwater, how does that work with the plants? If there is anything i havent talked about, some heads up is gladly welcomed :) Thanks in advance.

I have found FSA extremely helpful with any issues regarding osmosis units. When I was running 14 tanks I still only used a small portable unit which cost under $100 at the time. I made about 140 litres a week on average and still only had to change filters 6 and 12 monthly -the membrane was changed after 4 years . i now have the larger system but don't really notice much difference in speed etc.

Exactly the same as other mosses in regards to care.

Hi all I have recently returned to shrimp breeding after taking a very long break. I started back when CRS first arrived in Australia and produced and sold many thousands of shrimp. I am now working with high grade CRS and more recently PBL and have already produced several hundred CRS for retail aquariums in Melbourne in the last few months. I started playing with Taiwan bees but just can’t see the fascination with them - CRS are just nicer looking shrimp. I will have a crack at fancy red tigers on the side. Seems there are still some nice shrimp around. Matt
