I think what you refer to as diamond eye is when the "dragon-scales" grow they are quite thick and gradually move over the eyes eventually causing blindness. This isn't a problem if you don't move the tank decor and have a feeding routine where the betta knows where you'll be putting food in and when. I had a dragon-scale betta and didn't manage to establish this routine before he went completely blind and he eventually starved to death.
