No, I don't think petsmart or petco will. You're gonna wanna find an LFS. If they don't, ask who among them orders the livestock and request some Neocaridina on special order (if they'll do that). Otherwise, it's usually very safe to ship shrimp if you know what you're doing. The temps that matter are below 20F and above 90F, but can be solved by a 72hr heat or cold pack, respectively. Aside from those usually no issues in shipping. Many great shippers in the US. I would include my self in that list. Lmk if you have any specific colors of neos you'd like and I can point you in the right direction of a reliable breeder/shipper.

This is a project that has been in the brain for months and is finally getting off the ground. The inspiration has come from SKAF members and from another forum. Basically i like the idea of keeping native WA shrimp and our endangered Western Pygmy Perch in an outside tank so no heating required. Basically i was after a 4 foot tank and stand for the job and was offered one for free. When i went to pick it up it turned out to be a 3 footer with a hole drilled for a sump filter. Not what i was after but as the guy wanted it gone i decided to take it. The stand it was on was a monstrosity that could hold 6 3 foot tanks for a rack so that is sitting on my patio taking up room for now. The 3 footer was cleaned up and i was contemplating what to do with it when i got the opportunity to get a 6 foot tank on a solid wood stand for $100. A bargain you might say but it gets better. The tank glass is in great condition, dirty, and the silastic job is a bit rural but all in all it was good with the stand being industrial. When i said i will take it and how much was it again (old bargainers trick) he said just take it. Great, thanks, leave before he changes his mind. The 6 footer will need a lot of filtering so now i have a use for the 3 footer. Time to design and build a sump as well as learn how to drill & cut glass. New tank just got home. The stand was stripped of water damaged wood, sanded back and re-designed to take the sump. Painted the lot and got some black rubber matting for under the tank. Now i just have to design a sump. The hole that is already in the tank is conveniently located for a nice drain hose so that end of the tank will be the pick up chamber. Getting some glass was easy and cheap from the local salvage yard with the only irregularity being some of it is darkened. I have just got my daughter to show me how to do some basic, and i mean basic, computer drawing so this is where i am at the moment. Next step is the overflow box. I'm leaning heavily towards a Bean Animal style with the box on the outside. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Always wanted sulawesi shrimp and snails since they first appeared in PFK magazine (from memory) back in the mid 2008. Today I got realised a bit of that dream with the arrival of some juvie cardinals - thanks to @JPN07 After acclimating them over a couple of hours they went into the tank and within seconds they had coloured up and were feeding away. It might just be because they are new, but these shrimp are really fascinating to watch. Cant wait until they get bigger. Excuse the dirty glass.

To accommodate for those that can design but not build and those that can build but not design, this comp will be open to both formats. Criteria and steps to enter: To enter this competition you will either need to submit a design for a DIY build or a DIY build itself. The scope is fairly open so as long as it can be related to the Aquatic hobby it is fine to enter. Steps to enter: Create a new topic in the appropriate section on SKF Aquatics detailing the DIY project/design Post a link to that topic here Rules: Minimum post count - 5 to enter Can't be a design or DIY that has been published prior to October 2016 Has to be your own work Has to be published here on SKF Aquatics Limitations: For logistical reasons, this will be limited to our Australian members only Sponsored by: 1st Prize: Winner will be selected by SKF staff in consultation with our sponsor Discretionary Prize(s): Whatever comes out of the SKF Aquatics goodies box - these will be Shrimp Keepers Forum branded. End Date: December 2nd, 2016

Interesting. I now recall someone mentioning this at one point! Mostly in the south and east coast I think.

I just asked petco in Cambridge MA, and they say they carry RCS for $3.99 each. The good thing is that you see them before you buy, instead of getting random shrimp.

Las time I ordered from aquatic arts though Amazon and two shrimp died (bag was really cold). Can you point me to some reliable sellers? I would prefer yellow and red/white or blue. Thanks!

You aren't the only one suffering from mysterious deaths. I'm in the process of re-cycling a tank. Everyone has been telling me that it's the water, the wood, the lack of stability in the tank, too many large water changes, the substrate or the tank itself. (among some other reasons) The tank has never had fish in it, I was having deaths even while using RO water, had deaths even with stable parameters, it's the same type of wood that is being used in the other tanks, there were a max of 4 large water changes done within 7 months, I have the same substrate from the same bag in another tank and I *know* it's not the water. Three tanks that all get the same water regardless of what water I'm using (remineralized tap, remineralized RO, or a mix of hard and soft tap). Only having problems in one tank. I ended up moving all the shrimp to a temporary tank with "pure" tap water (no RO or remineralizers) treated with Fluval Aqua+ Plus, Mosura ShiZhen Power, Mosura Old Sea Mud Powder and Ebi-Ken Sosei. It has driftwood that has been used in other tanks, indian almond leaves and alder cones in it, all of which have been boiled. Coming up to 3 weeks in the holding tank and have had zero deaths. Previously, it was up to 1-3 deaths a week. The tank I'm re-cycling (ammonia, nitrites and nitrates) just recently finished going through the ammonia cycle, so I hope to add the shrimp back into the tank soon. Still not entirely sure what has been causing the deaths...

Tank looks great. They will love it in there.

You can prolong the rings from clogging by placing it last in the chain of your filter flow, so after the coarse, medium, fine sponges. Give it a rinse when you see too much mulm build up will also help. Cleaning filters should be a regular routine anyway to avoid "old tank syndrome".

If you want them to *die you want temperature close to 80. Neos will pretty much breed in any temp between like 65-80 F. What I'm saying is that your shrimp will not live nearly as long. I've found 74 F to yield the most shrimp in a given tank over time. Any higher or lower and the count declines- much faster on the higher side.

The ceramic rings never expire as such but i have heard that the micro pores can eventually get clogged up so the rings work less efficiently. This takes years under normal operation and can be fixed. Just need to soak them in an acid or alkaline solution, sorry cant remember which, for a day or two to break down the organics in the pores, rinse and off you go again.

ok soo here she is in all her glory! wast flows in to the filter sock-> then up and over the marine pure spheres ->in to the k1 chamber-> tumble tumble tumble and out the other side to a currently empty chamber that I intend to use for random bags of media when I need to add them, carbon, chemipure that kid of thing. Then though to the return pump! I haven't put the chiller in yet because it's still cycling.
