I am going to be heading down to Hedlow Creek area to see what I can find, I know there are rainbows there and good old fly specked hardy heads, but I am hoping to also stumble across Pacific Blue Eyes or my own personal holey grail of Rhadinocentrus ornatus. I may even get to go down to Byfield and some of the creeks in that general area, where the Rhads are recorded as being in residence. I am eager to actually see what the local type looks like and am hoping they are as stunning as many of the southern varieties.

About 3 months ago, I set up a new tank and purchased 10 mischling shrimp. I first saw berried females about 7 weeks ago, this week I've started to see little shrimp. Mostly red and white, but a couple of black and white. They are so tiny and my tank is very densely scaped with rock and masses of plants so there could be any amount in there. The most I've seen was seven at one time. I was really pleased when they started appearing, then last night I spotted this little guy. Not easy to get a pic as hes so small, but he looks to be blue and black. Looking forward to seeing how he turns out.

(Party pooper!) I mean - I usually use a fairly long hose and have small tanks - it's a tough fit to put the whole tubing in the water. Heavily planted and divided 2footers don't have much wiggle room. I forgot that most people probably have more space :P

Welcome back gc good to have you onboard:-) Bettas will savage any shrimp in no time so I wouldn't go there personally .. If you're keeping cherries then gravel is the way to go. I can't recommend any lighting myself someone else will have to advise you there. 24C - 26C is best for breeding cherries in my opinion but they're happy with temps quite a bit lower than that. That was me that put the BEP in the tank. When you said slowly add it I did add it slowly. Took at least 5 minutes hehe. There was no ammonia or nitrite spike whatsoever and there were berried shrimps all of which held onto their berries! Can't recommend BEP highly enough.

Unfortunately there is no easy way. You can either add the new substrate over the top of the old one. Or remove all your shrimp and siphon out the old substrate. What substrate were you using? I suggest CAL Black Earth Premium for your next substrate. They seem to last longer than the cheaper brands.
