This is a bit of a serendipitous project. I've been breeding Darwin Algae Shrimp (DAS) Caridina sp. NTnilotica for a while now using salt water algae cultures to raise the larvae. I'm up to the F3 generation (since I got them from Aquagreen) and have raised a few hundred shrimp. The normal colour is the horde in the photo below (swarming on an algae wafer)...but recently I've noticed just a few berried females that are white with metallic eyes. I thought at first it might be that they have just moulted - but the saddle suggests otherwise, and tonight I isolated one that has released swimming larvae (I caught a few to try and rear) - so she has stayed white for long enough for the larvae to mature. All up I only have 3 white females and 2 males ... but hey thats enough! The males are just clear, but have the same eyes which really shine when viewed at night with a headlamp so easy to identify them among the herd. Of course I don't know if the colour (or lack of colour!) will "stick" long term in an individual shrimp or whether it can be passed on... but only one way to find out...

Hello everybody, Ever wonder how the snails are scraping the algae? This shot is difficult to get, their mouth is moving so fast!

Ok thnx. I just divided my tank using glass and silicon but I think I got it a bit higher thank I wanted. 4 inches from the bottom. Was planning to add a in gravel filter followed by 2 '' of sl Aqua soil may now have to fill up 3.5'' or Leave it like your tank. Other side a partially bare bottom a bit for soil just to cover the glass.

Not with soy husks, but .... I went down a different route to pelleted food. I used agar to bind the ingredients. And you could use virtually any ingredient you have handy including soy husks.

I am thinking about processing my own food with guava leaves! Due to the fact that my family makes tofu from soyabeans I was told that the left over husks from the grinding process is basically what shrimp snow is?!?! I have some knowledge about food tech and guess I shall finally be able to put it to good use! I'm thinking a small soy based pellet with the added benefits of guava and mulberry leaves and a few other bits and pieces.

It's funny, I always thought that since Facebook got so popular in the last couple of years that aquarium forums were in the decline, although apparently I was wrong. I have almost nothing to give right now, but I keep plants such as Crinums, Aponogetons, some rare forms of Java Fern, Bucephalandra, Echinodorus, Crypts, Nymphea lotuses, Barclayas, etc.. My prized possession right now is a Crepidomanes auriculatum I was gifted by a member of Aquariumlife, but sadly it seems to be in the decline.
