Just an update with regards to colour variations. I can confirm that there are full red variants of the Paratya. A member here sent me a photo of one recently with a close up of the supra orbital spines to prove it was a Paratya. It's colour coverage was better than I've seen in some cherry shrimp being sold lately but definitely not to same degree as a painted or fire cherry. No knowledge yet on whether the colour can be passed to offspring. Also confirm presence of light blue variants. I'm keeping some now and attempting to line breed.

Hello all new member here. Im currently setting up my first shrimp tank since moving back to WA. Had alot of fish tanks and 1 shrimp tank with numerous cherries a few years ago in NSW. Tank im setting up is 3ft around 130 litres I think. 18kg of ADA amazonia substrate and currently has a Fluval internal filter until the water is cleared up from the damn substrate! Planning on switching to 2 or 3 sponge filters once I get some shrimp. I will be planting the tank with some type of moss and a few plants yet but im still undecided on which.. and also undecided on lighting. Shrimp going in will be chocolate cherries, and ill be setting up a small 1ft tank for some other shrimp.. ill post pics once the water clears up a bit.

Thankfully no big problems like that. Definitely right about the technology kids are afdicted to their ipafs atleadt until i deleted them for being naughty lol
  13. OzShrimp
Well my one is only a 4 piece connection so not really. You could easily overcome it though in my corcumstance i would put a valve in the outter ones air line and have it partially closed to equal the levels of air going through

My youngest daughter loved looking in my tamk always wanted to feed them and help

Look for the ones where the the input part into the splitter is in the middle and not the end. Mines plastic and has no valves
  16. OzShrimp
Haha glad i could help :) U will find the sponges u hook up further along ur splitter will produce less though cause the design is not that great.

When my tank was running i had 3 dual sponges running off the one pump differing lengths of tubing but didnt have your issue. Have to tried giving the sponges a squeeze undrr the water incase its blocked could be resulting in the smaller bubbles. Just about tonlook at that link I just looked and i think your splitter could be the main issue. From briefly looking at the photo would inbe correct in saying the air is entering on one end then travelling along and out each one? If this is the case u will find the first splitter gets more air. The splitter input on mine was directly in the centre like a T piece which provided a more even output flow
  18. OzShrimp
So is it the lower tank which has the stronger bubbles if so thats because of the height like you said having to travel a lesser distance irs coming out stronger. Perhaps a cheap adjustable valve would assist in ur issue allowing u to reduce the air flow In the mean time u can tie a loose knot in thenline going to that sponge or slightly crease the line and apply an elastic band to the appropriate tightness

I love the red & black with white stripes in the 5th pic - this is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish but in blue in my breeding tank :)

Hey @OzShrimp The black on front is corflute. Got the idea from Dean's original thread. Big sheet at bunnings is around $14 and is attached by Velcro dots for easy removal. Tanks cost around $85 each Sump was $130 Heater $55 Return pumps around $140 Rack $300 marine ply $120 pvc $200 polytube $50 lights $600 around $2445 not including soil, mineral powder, salty shrimp, bee max, mineral balls, cholla, moss, feeding tubes. Lol first time I have added it up!! ? I bought individual pieces over a few months, so never felt like a massive sum. Can still gladly say it's worth every cent. Very happy with it. i will try to get clearer sump image. But very similar to previous one I made, based on Jays thread. dont let the total put you off, that's eight plumbed tanks and two stand alone units. So ten tanks all up!! Forgot chiller $300. Lol

The correct time for adding shrimp (or any livestock) totally depends on your water parameters. You really need to test it. Check that Ammonia, Nitrite is zero before adding any shrimp. They type of soil used will also determine how long it takes to cycle. ADA amazonia for example can take a couple of months or more before it is cycled. What substrate have you used?

I only liked your post because you said you weren't eligible. ;) Great prizes, looking to see how the competition goes.
