Hi everyone , Scott here , some of you may know me from fishy forums years gone by , some of you may know me from the facebook shrimp/aquarium/fishy pages , i even have my own little facebook page called aquarium gardens australia . I've been keeping fish of all sorts for years now at one time even breeding many in my shed set up . got sick of all that and got myself a display tank to enjoy with tank busters , once again got sick of that so opted to inhabit the tank with rainbow fish ...... with rainbows came the odd plant , and another , and another ......... then i found i was enjoying the plants more than the fish themselves ...... so was my wife , so i got her a little 2' set up with a led light and some plants , then some better plants . in this tank was pacific blue eyes and whiptails .... (though i tried to talk her into getting shrimp from the very start ) one day when buying some plants for our tanks the guy had some shrimp in his tank , knowing what would happen i asked him to throw a couple in the bag lol . Well bec fell in love with the cherry shrimp and i soon got her some more , before you know it she kicked out the fish and it became a dedicated shrimp tank lol . I also got rid of my rainbows and now only have a tetra community in my display 6x2x2.5 , I also plan to stock it with all our culls . so anyway we now have three little planted shrimp tanks , Bec has 2x 2footers and i have a little nano beside the bed , we still have the large display and plan to set up one more little planted shrimp tank (Bec has her heart set on some blue dreams ) thats us for now , we dont know alot about shrimp at all so hoping to learn a bit here .thanks here are some pics of our humble set ups

thanks to North Boy my Zebra journey began today. they have settled in nicely showing reasonable colour and exploring the tank and foraging for food. now to see how long I can keep them going.

I think the trick is to "talk up" the culls make them seem desirable to more people by making a wow song and dance about them. I think some of the problem with people " not liking" culls is that in all honesty when do people get to see them? Everyone tends to only show pictures of the "best of the best" but skip over showing the poorer(?) relations even if they all stemed from the same stock. I know my wild types as above came from choc culls and some where along the lines I did have some yellows and rilli's getting about. Now my "wilds" throw all sorts of colours, shrimp with green tinges, blue, tinges and yellow tinges. So ultimately I think if somebody had the room and time these "wilds" could produce some astounding variations. Plus I think because most people when first getting into shrimp want to keep them with potential predators ie fish the "wild" ones might stand a better chance of survival over say a neon red nice ripe looking cherry. The other bonus I think of "wilds" is that they have better genetic diversity and are overall hardier. Because lets face it some of the line bred colour morphs are pretty fussy when it comes to water paramaters. So everyone here is the challange show us your "culls" and hopefully these forgotten gems can get more peoples appreciation.
