So it all has started. After moving the tanks last night To this tonight I think it's going well. Now cos my garage is so unlevel the rack is rocking -.- so I'm talking to a guy that works for the company that makes them and he installs them for a living. So I'm hoping I can get some levelling plates off him.

More and more people are keeping them. They are becoming a lot more affordable too. There are even rumors of people breeding them in tap water and cherry like parameters. So maybe in another few months they will go from the 100 ea to 50 ea. I need another tank!

Here is what Werner Klotz had to say about the water parameters in the Sulawesi lakes when he did an exploration trip... "These parameters seems to be no problem in this species. In the Towuti, Mantoano and Poso lakes you can find pH values between 7,4 and 8,2; the conductivity is at about 224 µS and the total hardness at about 6°DH. The water temperature is rather stable at about 26,5°C. Only in shallow water regions near the shore the temperature can rise to 29°C. " You guys with Sulawesi shrimps should start looking for 'Ottelia mesenterium', a species of plant endemic to the lakes.

And another one, these are such interesting shrimp. My tank is very densely planted and has plenty of spots to hide but there is always a few of these guys active in plain view.

This stunner decided to show herself this evening close enough to the front of the tank to get a couple of nice shots. The tank is going great guns with heaps of native shrimp and now some more newly hatched spotted blue eye fry.

Hi guys just showing off my tank . I'm only a noob and started this in December . Since starting out i have learned a fair bit about everything and i'm still learning. I started of with cherry's and i got some Chameleon Shrimp in early feb . Since joining this forum i have learnt a fair bit more etc , one thing i learned about is the tds , GH, and KH . After reading the article about tds i took the tds pen home from work and tested my tanks. All my tanks (2x3ft) had a tds reading of 1200ppm. Tap water is 550ppm The first tank is for my rainbows, bristlenose , sae , flying fox , mollies and two of species of fish (forgotten the names ). With this tank i had problem with ammonia it was high all the time and doing wc every 2 days to keep it down . The 2x canister filters were already seeded when i got them and the total flow is around 1600L/h . In the end it was frustrating me so i researched for different media type for the canisters and came across the Biohome Ultimate so i ordered some because i had nothing to loose . Two weeks later after adding it to one of the canisters i noticed ammonia went from 3.0 to 0 overnight and its never showed up again :). I started to notice the fish started to look pale and thats when i noticed the article about tds . I have been slowly dropping the tds down with ro water and its sitting at 550ppm now and the fish have got their color back. The second tank is for neons , rasboria , black tetra and cherry shrimp . I had problems with black hair algae and constant filter blocking with no flow . With the filter its a ehiem 2213 and every week without fail its either blocked in the pipes or at the bottom of the filter . I searched everywhere for help on this and used some products with no results . The only time it started become good was when i started dropping the tds down . I am surprised that cherry and Chameleon shrimp survived the very high tds of 1200ppm . As you can see i'm a noob , because i should of learnt all this before hand. I gave the tank a big clean out and refreshed it with ro water slowly but i made sure i had Salty Shrimp GH+ KH+ on hand first . After the first day of the new wp all the shrimp molted , a week later most of Chameleons went to nice dark colors . And as of yesterday have 5 berried Chamelons and some more showing signs soon . My wp are : Ph 6.8, GH 7, KH 5 and tds is 340 So thats my story so far lol , sorry for the long write up Heres my Pics of the Shrimp tank

I saw these Glass shrimp recently in a couple of local aquariums and immediately noticed a distinct difference to my local Paratya. I found they were distributed by A.I. as "Glass Shrimp". I was able to obtain a small group of them from a local (Melbourne) breeder who had them going for a while already - his stock had been obtained via Subscape Aquarium and they presumably had bought them through A.I. too. There is no supra orbital spine, so I imagine they must be a Caridina species. Does anyone recognise them? They must be fairly common and someone must be supplying them semi-regularly, so I don't think that identification to species and geographic region is too big an ask. They are quite visually distinctive, to me. cheers, Kyrill

Hello All! This is my first time trying to post pictures, so bare with me! Have to figure out the layout of the forum and how to attach a picture to the post! Anyhow, I acquired these tigers three weeks ago and I had one berried already! I'm not sure what happened, but today I did not see any of them with eggs.... I have golden bees and snow whites in the same tank, and I'm hoping for some cool looking high breads. Well, eventually that is! I still have a lot to learn about the "shrimping business".... However I think finding this forum was a huge step in the right direction! Well, here goes nothing! Enjoy!!!

So my helicopter like shrimp other wise known as Darwin Red Nosed finally decided to sit somewhere where I could actually get some decent pictures of them. They are still only young and have a fair bit of growing still to do. And trying to work out how to get into the snail trap.
  24. Baccus
One of my red noses blending in to the log PS Not sure what shrimp is the other one in the shot, it could be a young red nose, a DAS that jumped out of a neighbouring tank. And out in the open
  25. Baccus
Just got some nice pics this morning of these guys and discovered last night that one of the females is berried. Happy days. Ps keep an eye out for the young red nose also in the shot.
  26. Baccus
Not the best pictures I know (the damned critters have a phobia of the camera) but I liked the almost glowing spots it was showing off.
  27. JohnH
Nice! They certainly do like to helicopter around lol BTW. Is that some Hydra in the first pic to the left on the end of the wood?
