Just a reminder now the change of season is here and the creepy crawlies start appearing - if you are going to surface spray your house, Flea bomb it etc please remember you need to wrap your tanks with glad wrap and place wet towels over them. Switch off air pumps and filters for a couple of hours as the pumps suck the spray into your tanks. if you have a separate room -open the windows but try and seal the door to the rest of the house. Just spraying surface sprays and walking into the shrimp room you can exhale fumes and it may be enough to do harm to your shrimp -many people have lost their colonies this way over the years so please be careful.

I've added a few more stones and filled tank. Now for the long cycle. Which layout for the driftwood looks better?

After an impulse by on eBay 3 months ago I'm finally starting to make some progress with this new set up. So far I've just done a basic layout. Tank: 90cm x 36cm x 50cm Substrate: ADA Amazonia , 5mm gravel and pool filter sand Hardscape: river stones collected and wife's stolen ornament( some type of manzanita tree) Plants: Low light species. Java ferns, anubias, mosses maybe a few bucephalandra. Filter: tba I have a cycled worx canister I think I'll use Lighting: tba either a 3ft pro z led or makemyled. Livestock: tba I haven't decided yet but some caridina that I won't be selective breeding

So i picked up my 2 3ft tanks the other day the sponges are on their way to divide the tanks. I also got a 4ft but it is 60cm high so i gotta put it on the top shelf which makes my airloop a difficult thing to make now. So i had an idea. put some 4x2 to the back of the rack posts that will be higher then the tanks and run wire from each end then just cable tie the loop to the wire. though it is still a work in progress as always. I also have gotten ridden of one of the 2ft tanks so i can put the canister next to the 4ft tank on the rack and not the ground. but they may change. The black lines is the airloop being irrigation pipes and as i will have them higher then the tank chance of siphon wont happen. Then i just put the pump on the ground out of the way. any one else have ideas? Any ideas on what pump. Thinking the Airlab 20 or Resun lp20.

A timely reminder Ineke. I find the cockroach baits are a good alternative to sprays. Also remember that anti-flea medications for your pets are highly toxic for your shrimp. So dont pat your dog/cat and then put your hand in the shrimp tank if you've recently put the flea treatment on your pet. I use the anti-flea and tick treatments that come as a chewable tablet (specifically nex-guard) for my pug and haven't experienced any issues, even when his hair ineveitably ends up in the tank. (Pugs shed hair like you wouldn't believe! ).
