I was trying to take some shots of my cherries and someone decided to pose for a shot

Was showing off my tanks to @kizshrimp today and he found one of my stranger pets growing on the glass of my C. typus grow out tank. A freshwater colonial bryozoan.

Just wanted to update the journal since its been awhile. I will start with section one. So my little gamble paid off and i managed to get 5 females berried from the male I purchased above. Looking forward to seeing the results. The red cherries i keep in this section have not gone to plan. Instead of improving the red cherries i put in there it seems they are getting worse lol fml. Will cull the baddies and continue the journey. Might cull the colony and start with some better stock. Hint hint @Gbang. Fingers crossed I will have a population explosion in the next few weeks. Still a long way to go until i can match @ineke or @newbreed but i can dream.

honestly, I did it because it's how the tank builder recommend too, he has his clown fish breeding tanks set up like this and after looking at his system up and running i dicided I liked it enough to copy it. It makes for easy flow adjustment and with the stand pipes I can have the rack pushed right up against the wall saving space. All the return water is at the front of the rack and is easy to play with. the return pump it's self (aqua medic dc runner 5.0) has an electronic hand controller to adjust the flow and even has a "feeding" function that stops the return water for a while then auto starts up again.

Hello SKFers, I am in the process of organising mini interviews with some of the very best shrimp keepers around these parts. I have been luck enough to get our own SKF members @newbreed and @Gbang to be the first two interviewees. So this is your chance to ask these legendary shrimp keepers what you would like to know about them. So in the comments below add one question to either Newbreed or Gbang. Each question needs to be on a separate comment and needs to be address to either one of the above. If you like a particular question please like it. The top 10 questions based on the likes will be used for the interview. I will be asking other shrimp keepers for their permission to do an interview also but if you have certain people in mind or if you would like to be interviewed in this manner please pm me.

Here's a photo of one of mine with a nice red colour last night, first time I have seen this colouration in my tank.

Great photos @Grubs, I don't know how you managed to get them in that tight space. A Bryozoan hey? I wonder if it can be propagated easily? It was really amazing to see how Grubs can raise great numbers of planktonic larval shrimp in a very simple setup with some clever planning. Fantastic work mate!

I like how you have the water return to the tanks, have you opted for this method to allow you to control the flow back in and cost ? Will you plan to replace the tubes every now and again when they get dirty ? Presuming they do like on a canister filter.

So added some Boss Snow to the CRS tank tonight. Glad the new layout makes them easier to view. Below is a half hour after it snowed!! I love this tank!

Oh I forgot to mention detris in the tank seems to be what the native shrimp love most of all too. I know it looks horrid and if you do ANY movement in the tank then it goes murky.....but trust me the native shrimp seem happiest picking around in the mulm. Sometimes with the really tiny babies its the only way I can first spot them, seeing a bit of tank dirt dancing about as the shrimp picks it up and feeds off/ cleans it. And even though snails are the bane of almost all shrimp keepers I often see the shrimp blissfully eating snail poo. I am wondering if its a gut flora thing like cows licking each other to get gut flora and kangaroo joeys and koala joeys eating their mothers crap to kick start their gut flora.

These are some that i percieve as high grades from my line that are the traditional head and tail These however are my personal favorites even though they are technically culls :)
