After reading this thread with great interest and needing some new shrimp food, I thought that I'd give this recipe a go. Thanks to Jason for the recipe and advice. Made my first batch today with Chlorella, Spirulina, Kale, Bee pollen and Astaxanthin. Pictures below taken at 1 minute and 4 minutes after being in the tank. Can't even see the food lol

Quick update. All the shrimplets have matured and the tank is looking nice and full these days.

WooooHooooo I am so happy with ME. We went down to Boulder Rock and found a log (with some rather interesting moss?) growing on it submerged) with a lot of sand deeper down clay and a small bed of val nearby. After MANY scoops through the sand around the edges of the log (and breaking the handle of my net) I found plenty of dead snail shells even another nice large one, but really excited!!!! I found 3 small live ones. Happy Dance Happy Dance. I know these little guys are only wee tackers but I have high hopes that they will survive and thrive maybe even breed in my native tank with the shrimp and spotted blue eyes. Who knows they may even give the dreaded ramshorns in the tank a run for their money. I also found some spikey shelled snails that are similar in MTS but more interesting and some large smooth conical shells of another snail that I would have liked to find live. I would love to go back at night to the spot but unlike, today where I was wading in the water just above my ankles I wouldnt be so brave in the dark. Plus there where boats and jet ski's roaring past the enitre time I was in the water scooping for the snails. I also got an interesting shrimp, which I am guessing is a glass. The live ones Awakening Coming out Some of the other finds Sadly all dead

This is now planted! Picked up some HC and Lilaeopsis today and did some planting. Hopefully it does ok with the colder weather and my lack of experience with the dry start method.

I've just made myself a homemade food for the shrimps that they seem to love. The little buggers have completely swarmed the piece I threw in. Yes it's a bit of a teaser. More to come later. I'll share the ingredients.

I have always been inpired by other members crs colonies and i feel like my own colony has finally started to follow in the foot steps of members like @ineke @newbreed and @Jenbenwren. Over the last month i have had a few berried females hatch their eggs. Now i have roughly 30+ shrimplets between 2-4 weeks old. Some of the females have also reberried. So i wanted to share some pics to help inspire some others.

A huge thank you to @OzShrimp for you efforts mate. I've organised a care package including those moss ledges from one of our sponsors @newbreed.

Yeah I took it off, the quality was quite poor so wasn't worth keeping up. When I get a better quality video I'll throw it up. I'll see if I can make one tomorrow and see how it turns out, if it's alright I'll put it up for ya.

Awesome thanks, I had a poke around on ebay and found a stainless filter intake that's shrimp friendly!! ? got that on the way. The gravel I have is a little coarse, similar to the size of what the plants come in from shops.. Recon that will be ok?

Thanks for that- I did enjoy the experience and as I did so well I may try it again at a later date. I bred them at the wrong time of year for us too as we usually travel through winter and I don't have anyone to come and feed or do water changes so that made me realise I can't really keep fish at the moment too. I was taken by surprise with the large number of fry- when I first looked at the eggs I really thought there were only about 30 and would have been thrilled if even half of those had survived for a first try -I gave up counting after 150 in the end as they kept moving and I lost track. The person who took them did do a proper count and claims there were just over 300 -it wasn't in her best interest to lie about the high number so it must have been close to that amount. I have to learn to do things within my capabilities and although I am set up very well to cope with my shrimp -water changes for fish -especially that many - is a whole other thing especially with water temp being so critical. At least it was something to scratch off my bucket list -been there done that -well almost anyway -I suppose it wasn't a complete success because I only reared them for 5 weeks.

Yup, look into a stainless steel mesh guard, you can get them cheap off of eBay for like $2, it'll fit straight over the Eheim intake.

Welcome. Your desired setup sounds interesting. The only comment I have at this stage is to ensure your flyscreen material is shrimp safe. Most of us use stainless steel or filter sponge to cover the intake,

Total number of fry exceeded 300 of which only 3 died while I had them for 5 weeks. As most of you know I have quite bad back and neck injuries from years of nursing and unfortunately I couldn't cope with the amount of work that looking after this number of fish entailed. I was spending up to 4 hours a day with hatching live food and doing water changes- that many fish require lots of food and copious water changes. In the end I arranged for someone else to take them on and she auctioned them as they became sexable. Unfortunately she lost a few -probably due to not feeding as much live food and not doing water changes. Lesson 1) learnt- if you have a large number of fry of this type- these ended a vast majority of males- culling at a young age is advisable. Lesson 2 ) learnt- don't trust word of mouth arrangements with people you don't know. I didn't breed the fish to make money but was promised half of the proceeds. I will just say I didn't see much money. I fully enjoyed the experience , it was something I had wanted to do for many years, I learnt a lot but if I was ever to do it again -which I don't think I will -I would make sure I only kept 20-30 fry.

  27. fishmosy
Aquagreen (forum sponsor) sells them but I'm not sure what the legality is of transporting them from NT to WA.
