Last night much to my pleasant surprise 3 of my Riffles decided to show themselves off in relatively easy places to photograph them. These three are most likely all ones I got from LIvefish, since the ones I bought home from Cairns are still small little guys that are impossible to find unless I dismantle the tank. My riffles all seem to enjoy fry food/ powder which is good because it floats around and lets them wave their baskets around catching the fine food.

Even just 'nice rack' is fraught with danger!

I really have no idea what the exact parameters are in my tank. Some people say Rockhapton has hard water, while others say soft. I know the local pet shop that buys my guppies sells them as soft water guppies, because if you put my guppies in water that has had live bearer salts added, my guppies kick the bucket. Most of my tanks do have lava rock in them (which gradually breaks down), but the native tank doesnt have any. substrate wise I think its all inert with washed river gravel, some black sand and normal washed river sand. So nothing really fancy in the substrate. I also know I dont tend to get calcification from hard water on my tanks.

They hatch as planktonic zoe which can be raised in estuarine salinity green water but some will make it through in fresh water in your tank. I've had 20 or so adults for 12 months and there are at least 5 more juveniles in the parent holding tank. I've had some success rearing the zoe in salt water, but they are difficult and many attempts fail to raise any (all die) because the phytoplankton isn't right (or starts OK and then changes before the juvenile shrimp settle which takes 30-60 days. link to pic of typus zoe:

Yep doing super well so far. The last video and pics were from a couple of nights ago.

The flower took a long time to open - several weeks. It began to swell about a week before it opened And here is what it looks like after it opened (last weekend). Finally it looks like my Bucephalandra sp. "Dark Catherine" could be beginning to flower as well. I'll keep everyone updated.

The improvements I have made with my red rili's is from the advise you gave me some time last year. I pmed you about how to cull and improve my Rili's. I have followed that advise and I believe I have been getting better results. Thanks. Now with the best kept in their own separate tank I am culling a differently. Once they become juvies I check the pattern and colour of the legs. I'll keep the ones they are good and move the ones with potential into another tank. Put the rest into this tank lol but this one quickly becoming over populated.

I used to wait until I had a heap before I culled. Luckily I have also got a cull tank for the good but not perfect culls because recently I caught a couple of really nice ones out to just have a few Rilis in a spare tank. After losing the majority of my Cherries last year I didn't have the heart to start over again but it's great to see a few cherry babies back in the tank again. They certainly do out compete other varieties I still have a few elusive Cherries in my large CRS tank and I just can't catch the little beggars so there are more and more in there!

This is a new addition I got on the weekend. Dont tell my wife. I hope he will help improve the future generations in section one. I had to twist the sellers arm into making him availiable unfortunately my photography equipment and skills do not do him justice. I also believe he is still acclimatizing to the new tank but very happy with the colour.

No there was around three like this when they arrived from Dave and another 3 that are solid red/brown with a tan stripe down their backs. The solid coloured ones I am pretty sure are male since they are much slimmer in build while the mottled striped ones are chunky and more girl looking. I am hoping that when any babies are born they continue the patterns and dont all decide to look like the Blackmore shrimp which can be a bit duller. A solid coloured with tan stripe down its back And a couple of Blackmore River Shrimp The berried female is particuarly patterned.

Man you'll never guess what my occupation is... Basically brown sections slightly elevated which will create a low area for a tunnel/path under the driftwood in the middle. obviously more plants than what I've put in - Java fern on the trunk, some pelia, rotala and a crypt parvo carpet.
