Today i moved over the last lot of shrimp. 11 gb's and 4 blue bolt!!!! Oh yeah thats right i got myself some blue bolts. Only probkem is i had 5 and could only find 4 today. Fingered crossed i'll find the other one soon. I have decided to put 2 gb females with the blue bolts and a few blue velvets that have come from my red rili's. The rest of the gbs are going to go with the tibees. Hopefully next week i will have a tank for them. (New journal?? Nah this if for my secret projects lol) Gb's in the acclimatizing chamber (forgot to take pic while in the breeder box whoops) These are my 4 bbs. I am pretty sure one is a female maybe two if anyone can help sex it will be much appreciated. The last one is my personal favourite. Hopefully i will be able to get a colony with tgat colouration. They seem to have settled in fine. A couple of gbs have molted within 30mins in the new tank i hope its a good sign. I guess you might be wondering what is left in tge old tank. Let me introduce to you my joint favourite shrimps. The oebt's i have 4 all up 3 juvies and one female. The 3 juvies (i think they are male) are really dark and look almost black the seller says he thinks they are royal oebts. The female is also nice but not as dark. I was only able to catch two i will try to get a few move pictures when they come out. I think thats it. I hope everyone has enjoyed the journal. I hope it helps the community in some way. I will add a few photo once in a while but no more huge post (sorry about that guys lol)

First, it might be worth checking the accuracy of your nitrate test kit. Some are notoriously unreliable. Likewise you need to be certain to follow the instructions to the letter. If you do have high nitrates you can: - do water changes. Water changes are the simplest and easiest method to remove nitrates. - add a nitrate absorbing resin (some resins come embedded in filter pads) - add plants or mosses to the tank (these will help but not solve the problem). - check how much you are feeding. High nitrates are the end product from the breakdown of proteins. Protein is added to the tank as food for your shrimp.

A member tried it, and he says he obtained mostly greyish wild ones...

Hi AmesLea, Rainwater use and your pH and temp are fine for Cherries. However, the GH and KH seem a bit too high for just rain water without remineralising it (adding Calcium & Magnesium to raise mineral content). Either the reading is wrong (could be old test kits) or something else is raising it. Rocks are the usual culprit. Take out that rock, unless you know exactly what rock it is. GH 11 is on the high side for cherries. Why are you NOT running the filter with the old media from the axolotl? You said you let the tank cycle, how was this done? And how long? I suspect the tank and filters aren't properly cycled. A cycled tank will show some Nitrates. Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates at 0 is most unusual for a cycled tank. This is something that needs to be checked/confirmed immediately. You mentioned that you can get your LFS to check your water parameters. Get them to confirm your GH and KH again. A TDS pen is a valuable tool, so get one asap. Rainwater is great for shrimps and fish, but it needs minerals added. Otherwise your livestock will not do well. So products like Salty Shrimp GH+ is a must and is easy for newcomers to use - just follow the instructions on the packaging. Inspect your rainwater collection system. Are your tanks metal? Is the roof metal? Any rusting? Is the gutter clogged with debris?

Thanks peeps, it was temp related. The tank is down to 22 and shrimplets everywhere. I only put powdered food in once a week, other days are crack, snow, barley pellets and nls thera a. I also have mulberry leaves and ial in my tanks always. Cheers mick

Thank Wot_fan. Hopefully they are enjoying their new home. I would swap my 20 for your 8 anytime. I am sure in a couple of weeks you will go from 8 to 40

I have also caught, acclimatized and released my crs. They will share the partion with red cherries from my red rili's. I am hoping to work on the red cherries so they become fire red quality one day. Crs waiting patiently with the red while i chase the others in the tank. Lastly the shrimp exploring their new home. Suprisingly i have almost 20 crs cant wait for the colony to grow. Next installment tomorrow. Happy mothers day.

Thanks Buck. I have a couple of red tibees so if a few more appear i would like to work on some fancy red like Ineke has. The tibees are in and looking happy.

Its a interesting read man. Thanks for sharing. One thing i found interesting was that it says the growth increments was lower for the 24 degrees for the first 30 days but after that the shrimplets in 24 degrees caught up in the gi. I remember there was a discussion about the effect of temperature here about 6 months ago. I believe it was jayc that links a graph showing the temperature and the average gustation period. The higher the temperature the lower the gudtation period. Someone else mentioned in the same post how lower temperatures would result in more females while higher would give you more males. Ard 22 degree would give you more female and anything higher then 28 would result in more males . someone else said in their experience in aquaculture that in winter there would be more females too. I know shrimpy daddy has said he believes keeping his shrimp at 26 degrees has given him the best results too. Saying this are you aiming to find a temperature/conditions to keep the shrimp breeding all year round at as high rate as possible?
