Some more photos. Here is one of my CRS. A berried Chameleon which changed colour to a nice dark rose, see the pale white stripe down the back. Can't believe how tiny the juvenile Bristlenose are. Have more CRS coming, so once they are in and comfortable I'll throw some photos up of them.

I took some a few pictures of my CRS today. Below are the 3 that turned out the best. IMO the shrimp look quite a bit nicer than when I originally got them (see original post pics). I haven't seen the berried female in the last couple of days. Hopefully she is still carrying.

The K14s that won Best in Show at the championships earlier this year are stunning creatures with really solid white and the best of them with just a smiley pattern. The photo above are probably the same stock.

Bob asked me to post this as it wasn't working out for him. These are cling gobies, Stiphodon species I think. Just another one of the virtually unknown treasures from our far north.

Shrimp Club Victoria is looking for a logo. Can you help?? So, as our Club would not be the same without the input and contributions of our members and friends, we are opening it up to you to help us find a suitable image. Images need to be of a high resolution and something that we can use to produce shirts, jumpers, coffee mugs, etc. and to represent our Club in promotional materials. We ask that all images get posted on the thread on the Shrimp Club Victoria Facebook homepage. All images need to be received before Friday 29th May 2015. The Shrimp Club Victoria committee members will select their Top 5 entries prior to the next Club Meeting on Sunday 31st May. At the meeting we will put the Top 5 to a vote. All attendees will be asked to vote to help decide which logo will be the winner. The winning entrant will receive a prize pack including 7 packs of Boss Aquaria shrimp products including Snow, Crack, Baby Powder, Mineral Powder, Barley Pellets, Booster and Mineral Balls. By entering this competition, you give us permission to use your image on our future Shrimp Club Victoria merchandise, promotional materials, website and facebook page. Images need to be of your own work/image, get your thinking caps on, and get the creative vibe going!! Entries close at 11:59pm AEST Thursday 28th May 2015. Special thanks to Shrimp Club Victoria sponsor BossAquaria for providing this amazing prize!! Thanks & look forward to seeing your awesome entries!! Credit Jamie Newbreed for writing up this comp and image :)

So I haven't kept cherries or tigers for awhile, mainly focusing on TB and CRS! But one of our members kindly posted pics of some AMAZING cherries they are selling! And (have I mentioned I am impulsive???) after setting up the planted tank I was motivated. I had a dalbarb corner tank that has been unused and unloved for 18 months gathering dust. This needed a revamp. As the colour of the shrimp in question may not stand out on black gravel, I have used a red variety of the clay soil used in the planted tank thread. This stains the water initially somewhat but oh well!! As it is a neutral substrate I have used the Salty Shrimp Gh/Kh+ to bring it up to cherry/tiger friendly parameters (Thanks for the advice Gbang!) Also added some bee balls and an Oxydator too! I had an Eheim Professional 3 sitting in its box, this has now found it's purpose. And I have placed a couple of the new BioSpon 58L Filters in here too. Sexy huh?!?

My solution is just an enabler, they will not create miracle. If your shrimp has good gene, it will bring the best out. But if it has bad gene, there is a limit it can do. ;)

Your CRS is on par with or even better than the knock-off PRL. They are lovely. ^^
  13. neo-2FX
Very nice. I'm starting to notice that too. I can spot a few strands of hairgrass in the gaps between HC.

The k grading scale comes from germany. In the rest of europe it would be a sss. I wouldnt call them smiley or ssss as there is too much red, it looks more like a cranky smile ! Even though i have some smileys i would rather have the red bee in the picture, they are much better quality.
  15. neo-2FX
Any updates on this Lkennedy? Keen to see how your HC is doing.
  16. neo-2FX
Now that is one cute CRS! Wish I had gone the normal hairgrass type now. The belem just doesn't look the same as it lays flatter.

Havent done a update for this tank in awhile. I also have a new phone that seems to take decent pictures. I have ripped out a heap of dwarf hair grass and other plants. Next step is to take out the rocks and rescape the tank. This will happen after i move all the shrimp to my new tank. Also something of a little milestone for myself which has made me extremely happy. This is my first crs shrimplet to grow into an adult. It came from my the 3rd lot of crs to be born in my tank and one of 2 to grow to adulthood from that drop. I always thought i had two males until today.

As we know, insecticides are a massive no-no when keeping shrimp. Shrimp are as susceptible to insecticide as the bugs are, if not, more so. So what do can you do to get rid of those pesky flies without reaching for the deadly spray? Here is a bit of an old school solution that works wonders. Fly paper. Stumbled onto this when the wife threatened to start using sprays if I didn't get rid of the flies. For some reason, the flies aren't attracted straight away, and the wife complained it was all a waste of time. However a couple of days later and ... Now I like to point out to my wife the fly paper that doesn't work! Edit: forgot to mention, this is available at the big green and red hardware warehouse for around $6.

Did the 'worm' have an arrow shaped head? If so, it is almost certainly planaria.

Hopefully by the weekend our rack will have some tanks connected to the sump and begin cycling, for shrimp tanks to be added periodically to not overrun the sump. That's going to be our true test with is. 99.9999% sure no one will get into the sump however

There is 4 or 5 species of the up here and they are all protected, not so rare in the right places and creeks. I have had views of 30+ in my field of vision and when the male dances to his mob of females it is a sight to be seen. A place that you always see 3 of the species and a safe place to put on a mask and jump in is Emmagon creek Cape Tribulation, google the creek and have a look Bob

measuring ammonia and nitrite is basically a waste of time. These nutrients are rapidly grabbed by organisms in natural habitats and so only appear at low concentrations, generally too low to detect using aquarium gear. The only time you might detect them is if the habitat is polluted or after heavy rain (influx of nutrients). Its unlikely you'll find nitrate either, but sometimes it appears in low concentrations depending on the habitat. TDS, pH, gH, KH and temperature (just use a thermometer) are all useful.

They're a magnificent group of fish. I love gobies and gudgeons and these are probably the best of them. Unfortunately they're very rare and I don't know that they have ever been bred in captivity.

Yes, I tried Urea before. Actually, it is better to mix Urea with KNO3. However, Urea evaporate very easily and it does breakdown in NH2 and NH3 under some conditions. Therefore, it is not 100% safe with shrimp (I tested it and switch over to 100% KNO3 later on). Currently, I am testing on something else that is beneficial for shrimp and they love it. Have been testing for weeks and no death or sign of stress. In actual fact, their health is getting better. Which is why, I am performing the test on high-tech high-light tank to provide that it is capable of supplement nitrogen and at the same time good for shrimp. ;)

I have almost all good news to report for the last week. The only bad news is I lost the first female that berried for me. She was the last sick/discolored shrimp in the tank. Of the 13 I started with I have 6-7 remaining. On the positive side, at least one of the shrimplets from the female that passed is doing well. The batch of shrimplets that hatched a week ago are also thriving. I have no idea how many I have, but I can usually spot 6-8 without looking too hard. They have become more mobile which also makes it easier to spot them. My remaining female has a full saddle. I expect her to berry up any day now. It looks like my colony actually has a shot. So take the above and add it to the fact that I started a CRS tank and you can see that it has been a very good shrimp week for me . As always, I want to thank Shrimpy Daddy for advising and educating me. He has saved me and my shrimp a lot of stress. Here are a couple of my adult shrimp (males I think) Here is the shrimplet from the female that I lost Here are a couple of my 1 week old shrimplets

So I let it sit overnight as, again, it got to the point I really couldn't see what I was doing in there! Next day it had cleared and the water reached the desired temp. I took some cycled Marinepure Spheres from my rack sump and put them into the Eheim. I took a couple of sponges from existing tanks and gave them a good squeeze to get things kicked off. I had heaps of Mayaca Fluitans and some other stems left over so thought it might be nice to provide a forest for new tankmates. I also had a spare feeding tube and bowl that I put in place. So the cycle begins. Think the new shrimp will be happy in here soon.
