So there have been DIY threads on retrofitting strainers but after recently spending some time with Lodo I can confirm another ready-made solution. For a while we have had these Pro Mesh Filter guards available. The image below is the long version, 14cm. Lodo has designed a setup great for his tanks. I had the following concept. Just using the plumbing tape you use to seal threaded joints, you wrap around the open end. Once you've got enough on you can twist it into the female threaded section of your bulkhead. No shrimplets getting through this baby!! And the beauty is, due to the length, it has a large surface area open to the water, even if leaves collect on part, there should still be adequate water flow. Oh yeah, it's open on the end too. These are available at site sponsors now! At least, I know I stock them! I think Aquakitz too! Hope this helps! It seems such a simple solution!!

It has been a month since my last update so I figured it was time for another. Everything is going good in the tank. My female has had another batch of shrimplets though it was much smaller than the first batch. From the first time I saw her berried she was only carrying 8-10 eggs. She has a nice saddle again so I expect her to be berried in the next week or so. I am interested to see how many eggs she carries this time. I now have shrimplets ranging from 1 week to almost 2 months. The tank is much more lively than it has ever been. Here are a couple shots of my favorite adult male Some of my shrimplets

Try australian blackworm farm- they have a good website and sell live worms but it's expensive as they only sell in large quantity -200g I believe and thats around $60 plus postage- however the shrimp have difficulty catching live worms- they do get the occassional one and love them but generally frozen or as I've found out recently the freeze dried worms go down a treat- I have a few cull shrimp in my Betta tank and they love it when any of the dried worms finally reach the bottom they soften up nicely once in the water-the shrimp even come up to where the worms are stuck on the glass for the fish- I know several of our sponsors sell the dried black worms.

Can't believe the fry are now 4 weeks old and growing well. The largest is 2cm and the smallest about 0.6cm.1 dead this morning -I think from getting siphoned out of the tank yesterday. Checked the water and apart from high nitrates -they had beefheart for lunch and the tank was due for water change - the water was fine 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. the fry are shown here happily munching on chopped black worms yummy!

Hit me up closer to the date that you are coming up and I'll take you to a couple of spots around Bellingen where there are tonnes of riffles and show you how to catch them. Not to mention mosses, Paratya, gudgeons and much more.

They are both fine so long as they are not the only food. Growing conditions are way different for both to be raised in. Blood worm Mozzies don't bight humans and are on the bottom of most out door ponds in the tropics and sub tropics, don't know about further south?? they make a little mud shelter on the bottom of ponds and drag it along as they feed. I'm fighting hubby to get to the glass jars - he needs them for his shed - but I noticed IGA has 2.5 litre soft drinks going out at $1.45 might be worth buying them even if I throw out the drink it makes for a cheap good size container.

I've always used the frozen blood worms for my shrimp but the only live worms I can get for my fish are black worms so I have live and freeze dried black worms for the fish and frozen blood worms for the shrimp but the shrimp like both. I don't know what nutritional differences there are between the two but as I can get both I do.
