As above, a new competition for SKF members. All you need to do is look through the website, find the item you would like to win, then post in this thread the name of the product and the reason why you chose that one! Competition runs until 9pm AEST Sunday 10th May. Once entries are closed, I will allocate a number to each entry, then use a random number generator to decide the winner! Whoever has the lucky entry number gets the prize they have chosen! Choose carefully, you just might win it! Unfortunately, this competition is only open to Australian residents. As the winner is decided by a software program, this competition is open to moderators as well! Enjoy!!! Good luck!!!

A quick and dirty photoshop edit, but imagine how awesome a pink shrimp would be :p. Is this genetic even possible?

I'll preface this by saying that the following are my own opinions and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SKF or its owner. My statements should be in no way used to determine the legality of shrimp keeping or export/import of shrimp in Aus. Yes it is definitely illegal to import shrimp to Aus. The law is kind of grey after that. The shrimp arent listed as allowable imports, but aren't listed as prohibited either. It tends to be that if you dont buy (or get caught buying) shrimp from the smugglers, the various state authorities (such as Fisheries) tend to leave hobbyists alone. For example, in NSW I believe it would be difficult for fisheries to prosecute someone for possessing shrimp since they are not listed as prohibited and have been bred in Australia. Indeed I supply CRS and cherries to my LFS on occassion and they recieve visits from Fisheries looking for prohibited plants or fish. There has never been anything raised by them regarding the shrimp. However in some other states, it differs. For example, the fisheries department of Western Australia has confiscated shrimp from aquarium shops and apparently hobbyists in recent years, including Australian native shrimp. It remains unclear to me as to what legal reason WA fisheries were able to confiscate the shrimp, and indeed why shrimp were targeted. Tasmania also has much stricter rules regarding aquarium species and I believe (but could be wrong) that it is illegal to transport shrimp to Tasmania from other states. As for shipping natives out of Australia, I think it can be done legally after jumping through the right hoops and obtaining the correct permits. I've never looked into it but I know that export of native freshwater fish has occurred on occassion. There are also lots of marine exports from Australia.

..so what about a freshwater leech that exclusively eats snails. Helobdella papillornata. See last paragraph: http://static-content.springer.com/lookinside/art%3A10.1023%2FA%3A1003543314841/001.png. Gyraulus (mentioned in the paper) is a lot like the "mini ramshorn" that plagues many people. Edit: I suspect they will be a cold water species that may not tolerate the temps many of us have our tanks at.... but I really want to try to find them now.

Something like the attached would be cool! Could use lava rock, moss and hair grass which wouldn't require too much light.

The light grows moss very well for me. I think it's worth it. Moss will grow quicker, healthier which translates to extra surface area and better filtration

Purple, I've seen something that is going in that direction:

Hmm, international fame. Can't complain about that.
  11. GotCrabs
Of course it sounds great, I came up with it, haha.

Don't you talk that way about tannins! Seriously though, what's wrong with tannin? Just run a tiny bit of carbon or macropore if you're worried. I was thinking something like what neo-2fx showed, but your plan sounds great too.

Thanks Ineke, you have been very helpful.I have noticed that my crystals do better with better lighting and enjoy the biofilm as a result.Need to do a bit more research before making my final decision this week. Cheers Mark.

I'm thinking a piece of corkscrew val or two in the left back corner, alternanthera reineckii mini around that, then 2 pieces of malaysian driftwood with anubias nana on it infront of the ARM and then some pieces of blyxa japonica infront of that.

Hello all! I found some awesome looking shrimp in my tank with Carbons and Blue Dreams when I found this pearler. I was thinking or putting her with this male: Any ideas as to what they are Looking forward to trying to breed them further.

Metallics would be amazing. You can get the oily reflective sheen on some blacks and blues in the right light. I would gladly house some silvers and golds!! A bling tank!!
  20. kizshrimp
Yep it's Anubias. A. barteri is at top right of pic, main subject looks to be A. afzellii.
  21. fishmosy
I suspect it is an Anubia, probably something like Anubia barteri.
  22. revolutionhope
they look like shrimp to me! funky ones too! :-)
  23. jayc
Of course it is, it's based on my formula. But that being off by 0.1 must be a mistake you made some where. The TDS pen should be picking up the Potassium. Why wouldn't it?
