Mike. Great pics. Love how it drew out so many shrimps. I have found another use for Chlorella powder and the Astaxanthin powder. (This probably deserves a post of it's own.) Fry food !! I have a couple of chromaphyosemion bitaeniatum (AMAR11) Killie fish fry. I squirt a drop of Chlorella & Astaxanthin mixed with a bit of water into the fry holder, and the babies are eating. This is just loose powder, not mixed in with agar agar. This is heaps better than what I would normally use - egg yolk or crushed fish food. Chlorella doesn't go off as fast as egg yolk or fish food. I wonder if chlorella powder will work for Darwin Algae shrimplets too. DAS shrimplets are near impossible to get them surviving past a certain stage. I wonder if chlorella powder will help them survive long enough to get big enough for other foods. Need somebody to try.

Joy :-) Just thought id follow up and share some good news. I seem to have my situation under control. Three things have changed so im nit sure which is most responsible - one is the addition of a small amount of RO water with a little epsom salts for magnesium and some calcium carbonate to raise pH to same level as tank ~7.5. The other is the addition of rhe shrimp mineral powder? Another factor could be that I fed some zucchini yesterday and previously I had been lazily using algae wafers and crab cuisine! Im not sure what is the reason but my sunsets and ycs are now behaving like healthy active shrimp again. Fresh molts are appearing and their appetite is dramatically improved. Anyway thankyou kiz and jayc youve both been very bery helpful in understanding the water parameters and deciding how to take action. I have some ro water from the lfs which will last a few weeks and then I will be looking at getting a system from filter systems Australia. Ive already spoken with them and they have been quite helpful! Ive also ordered the ingredients for jayc's diy remineralisation mix so I will be able to mix up something better than just kh tablets and epsom salts :-) One question - someone suggested epsom salts act as a laxative for fish; has anyone heard/know about this? Love n peace Will

Interesting stuff, I have a berried DAS, I will move her to a breeder box and try the Chlorella & Astaxanthin powder on them. Would be fantastic if it worked!

OK, you asked for it, you got it...... Forgive the camera/skill.... Made a fresh batch using the same recipe I listed above. Only this time I pureed the dry ingredients in with the shrimp and 4oz of water (didnt have pulverize the bee pollen this way, it just disolved). Wound up with a thick syrup, about the consistency of chocolate syrup, this way. I then blended the cooked agar solution into it and spread it out on the cookie sheet. After the gel set, about 10 minutes, I scored it with the Onion Holder. Press down somewhat firm and it cuts about 90% and 100% through, but the scored pieces break easily once frozen. This was right after putting it in, the frenzy got more intense with each passing minute. The frenzy continues:

Been breeding these guys for about 2-3 years now at A and S grades. Finally I have picked up some nicer shrimps and have decided to start culling for better colour and pattern. They are living on a high co2 environment so the breeding process is very slow. I will be keeping a journal on here of my shrimp and there colouration. Here is a picture of my best shrimp to start it off. Louis

Go steady when the screw cuts in and you wont stuff the plastic thread Bob

Well done. Glad we could be of assistance. Magnesium sulfate or epsom salts is a mild laxative, but only if you deliberately increase the dosage for bloat treatment. Keep to the correct ratio like my diy mix and it won't be a problem.

Yes I am thinking it might be worth bubblewrapping rhe foamboxes we ship shrimp in after rhe experience I had this last week shipping to regional nsw! See attached.. 48/50 shrimp survived.. Edit - I did send this inside a prepaid sachel.. i guess it could have been handled differently if it was just the box itself and not the box loose inside the bag!

A loop prevents a decrease in pressure as you move away from the pump. At worst, not using a loop results in the lines at the end of the pipe having less air coming out compared to the lines near the pump. So if you have a deep tank at the end of the pipe, there may not be enough air pressure to run an air stone or filter in this tank.

I just posted on another thread that Hornwort is the only thing we can get away with in a yabby tank. It's absolutely untouched, but he demolishes all other plants too. What is it with Ceratophyllum?

I used to have one of those tanks then the glass broke! i wish lol. Some minor changes been made to my tank. 3 of my dual sponge filters went in the bin due to BBA. Replaced with 1 new dual and 1 single. New Air hosing courtesy of The Tech Den. Bubble bar running behind my plants giving bubble curtain. Forgive the moisture on the tank, its been so humid here today my tank keeps fogging up with condensation.
