Not to be out done by Newbreed I thought I would share my CRS colony. I think Jamie wins because he has sold some and I haven't removed many. Both of us had months of no breeding and then within days of each other we had berried mamas and they have just kept breeding. The quality of mine is not great although there are a few nice SS in there. I have some juvies from another breeding program that are much better quality and I will add some of them when the numbers increase. The tank is an Aqua one 980 with 4 sponge filters and a canister with ultra violet light in it. This is the tank kept cool by 4 computer fans and generally sits at 22 rising to 24 on really hot 40 degree days but usually only sits that high for an hour or two.

Thanks to a massive effort of the team from Shrimp Club Victoria, and their sponsors, this first national championship was a great success. It was great to see all the beautiful shrimp on display, but also nice to meet a few more people including some awesome interstate travelers. Special thanks to you guys for making the effort to come down. I hope the championship next year is even bigger and judging by the success and great vibe of this one, I think that's a certainty. Congratulations to all the entrants and especially prize winners. Anyway I know you're all waiting to see the photos, so here goes. "Blue Dream" Neocaridina davidi First time I'd actually seen this strain. Wow! "Fire Red" Neocaridina davidi Wow again! "Orange Rili (Blue Body)" Neocaridina davidi "Chameleon Shrimp" Caridina sp. NT4 Such a beautiful Australian native species. I really like this pic even if those out-of-focus highlights are just horrible. The rest is good IMO. "Black Crystal / Bee Shrimp (CBS)" Caridina logemanni "Red Crystal / Bee Shrimp (CRS)" Caridina logemanni How's the legs on these things (especially the girl)? I must have liked them to show more than one photo, plus they were pretty well-behaved. "K14"grade CRS Caridina logemanni This line of shrimp are really lovely but weren't as well behaved as the last group. "Tangerine Tiger" Caridina mariae I was really taken with those Tangerine Tigers , they're even nicer in real life than I'd expected. There were a couple of tanks of them but no OEBT, strangely. You noticed how I've tried to apply the new Caridina names above? Sadly that's where it ends - I think everything else are probable to definite hybrids. "Fancy Tiger" Caridina hybrid Even though these guys were just little, they were already really striking. Hopefully there will be plenty more "Fancy Tigers" at the next championship! "Extreme" King Kong Shadow Pandas Wine Reds I'm going to wind it up there for now. There's only a few more pictures to go but they're of some of the loveliest shrimp, so make sure you keep looking.

They have such consistent deep colours Ineke. My patterns are a bit mixed now after adding SS to the mix, personally I love the look of them all being uniform patterns across a few generations. And your tank layout is sooooo neat compared to my crs jungle. In my tank I believe ambient temperature was a main issue in low birth rates initially, over the winter stretch, but I am trying something this year to see if it makes a difference, if successful it will be shared.

As noted by the author of that article, things can be different in different tanks. My CPD breed readily and don't readily eat their offspring, allowing the population to grow without my intervention. When I had Glowlights (choprai) I could never get the population to increase like that. I have watched Halfbeaks hunting well below the surface many times well into the zone occupied by baby shrimp. Otherwise no surprises, all the tetras and Nannostomus are voracious hunters. The omission of White Clouds is glaring but unsurprising; they're one of the most underrated fish around. Just because they're cheap and common in the aquarium trade doesn't make them no good. I often hear aquarists carry on about "conservation values", well the humble White Cloud may be well established in the aquarium trade but it's extinct in its original habitat and now only occurs in an isolated population on Hainan Island. It's not the only "common" aquarium species to be critically endangered or extinct in the wild.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, yes I really like some of the photos too. Chris Lukhaup? I wish. There is a huge gulf between the quality I have shown here and his amazingly detailed close head shots. Following Shrimpy Daddy's excellent advice in his "Photography tips" thread will see any of you take photos like mine or better. As lodo mentioned, the K14 were best in show, a beautiful line I imagine are from beeshrimp oz. The photo is of one shrimp from the winning group, I couldn't get photos of the others (badly behaved). I got pics of whatever shrimp I could, not necessarily the best in the group. BTW the groups were (I believe) at least partly judged on consistency as a group. I'll update my posts with breeder and prize info when I can. The chameleon shrimp was from a group shown by Paul O'leary that I believe won 1st in the native class. Gbang wanted me to mention that the Blue Dream, Fire Red, Orange Rili, CBS and CRS I've shown were on display only, and not eligible for entry in the competition - obviously because their owner was judging. The same is true of the Snow White and probably Skeleton Bee that I'll post below. Different judges though. Anyway... I'll get on with posting the rest of the pictures. Skeleton Bee - Breeder: newbreed This was not the most "skeletony" shrimp in the group, but it was the one that I caught near the glass. Snow White - Breeder: Squiggle Again, this was the only one of the group that I managed to get a shot of. Mosura Blue Bolts - Breeder: beeshrimp oz Damn these were some good looking shrimp. The colour was really good and a bit washed out here. Obviously I really liked them, as with the group below. Mosura Pinto - Breeder: beeshrimp oz. 1st Place, Category 6 (others) How's the 2 little faces in the last picture? That's the last of the shrimp photos from me, hope you enjoyed looking. Hopefully you can join us next year, it should be amazing!

A little bit about me. I have been keeping large AFrican Cichlid tanks for about 30 years. Have also done the the hight-tech planted community tank, Arrowannas, Oscars, Snakeheads, and other genres over the years. My main calling has always been the Africans though. One thing about Africans is that they tend to have a high bioload, and they will usually shred any plants that are introduced. Consequently I was having nitrate problems and algae problems, even with regular water changes. This is my 150 gal tank, the rocks are about the size of soccer balls. So I started thinking about nitrate reactors, refugiums, veggie filters, aquaponics, etc to handle the nitrate problem. After reading a bunch I settled on doing a refugium. The typical algae refugium in a wet/dry sump didnt grab me because it held little interest to the eye. I settled on a vaggie filter of sorts. A 29 gal tank heavily planted and tied into the same wet/dry as my big tank. I then added some RCS for interest. Then I got the shrimp bug........ Which is what lead me here.

Hahahaha!! You forget, this is me your are referring to! Mr impulsive spender!! Any sales I have made are just funding more and more stock, products and general nonsense! But yeah, that tank has more than paid for itself. And has helped the next stage begin.... But that will be another thread!! :)

So time for an update on the CRS tank. I am so thankful that this tanks population just keep on multiplying. The graded are starting to increase as a result of Gbang's boys being added to the mix about seven months ago. I love seeing this tank each day. I have left the biofilm grow on the front glass pane now and it's wonderful to have a shrimplet swarm each day. Enjoy!! Once the new rack is up and running, I will have to separate some grades to focus their future development.
