Thanks to a massive effort of the team from Shrimp Club Victoria, and their sponsors, this first national championship was a great success. It was great to see all the beautiful shrimp on display, but also nice to meet a few more people including some awesome interstate travelers. Special thanks to you guys for making the effort to come down. I hope the championship next year is even bigger and judging by the success and great vibe of this one, I think that's a certainty. Congratulations to all the entrants and especially prize winners. Anyway I know you're all waiting to see the photos, so here goes. "Blue Dream" Neocaridina davidi First time I'd actually seen this strain. Wow! "Fire Red" Neocaridina davidi Wow again! "Orange Rili (Blue Body)" Neocaridina davidi "Chameleon Shrimp" Caridina sp. NT4 Such a beautiful Australian native species. I really like this pic even if those out-of-focus highlights are just horrible. The rest is good IMO. "Black Crystal / Bee Shrimp (CBS)" Caridina logemanni "Red Crystal / Bee Shrimp (CRS)" Caridina logemanni How's the legs on these things (especially the girl)? I must have liked them to show more than one photo, plus they were pretty well-behaved. "K14"grade CRS Caridina logemanni This line of shrimp are really lovely but weren't as well behaved as the last group. "Tangerine Tiger" Caridina mariae I was really taken with those Tangerine Tigers , they're even nicer in real life than I'd expected. There were a couple of tanks of them but no OEBT, strangely. You noticed how I've tried to apply the new Caridina names above? Sadly that's where it ends - I think everything else are probable to definite hybrids. "Fancy Tiger" Caridina hybrid Even though these guys were just little, they were already really striking. Hopefully there will be plenty more "Fancy Tigers" at the next championship! "Extreme" King Kong Shadow Pandas Wine Reds I'm going to wind it up there for now. There's only a few more pictures to go but they're of some of the loveliest shrimp, so make sure you keep looking.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, yes I really like some of the photos too. Chris Lukhaup? I wish. There is a huge gulf between the quality I have shown here and his amazingly detailed close head shots. Following Shrimpy Daddy's excellent advice in his "Photography tips" thread will see any of you take photos like mine or better. As lodo mentioned, the K14 were best in show, a beautiful line I imagine are from beeshrimp oz. The photo is of one shrimp from the winning group, I couldn't get photos of the others (badly behaved). I got pics of whatever shrimp I could, not necessarily the best in the group. BTW the groups were (I believe) at least partly judged on consistency as a group. I'll update my posts with breeder and prize info when I can. The chameleon shrimp was from a group shown by Paul O'leary that I believe won 1st in the native class. Gbang wanted me to mention that the Blue Dream, Fire Red, Orange Rili, CBS and CRS I've shown were on display only, and not eligible for entry in the competition - obviously because their owner was judging. The same is true of the Snow White and probably Skeleton Bee that I'll post below. Different judges though. Anyway... I'll get on with posting the rest of the pictures. Skeleton Bee - Breeder: newbreed This was not the most "skeletony" shrimp in the group, but it was the one that I caught near the glass. Snow White - Breeder: Squiggle Again, this was the only one of the group that I managed to get a shot of. Mosura Blue Bolts - Breeder: beeshrimp oz Damn these were some good looking shrimp. The colour was really good and a bit washed out here. Obviously I really liked them, as with the group below. Mosura Pinto - Breeder: beeshrimp oz. 1st Place, Category 6 (others) How's the 2 little faces in the last picture? That's the last of the shrimp photos from me, hope you enjoyed looking. Hopefully you can join us next year, it should be amazing!

I finally got my rack finished it took a lot longer than expected and ended up slightly larger than expected. it will be home to all my shrimp cherry, tb, tigers, natives etc here are some of the details about the rack. the overall size of the construction is 2.3m high 1.8m wide and .6m deep. It has 3 standard 5 ft tanks 1530mm long 360mm wide and 500mm high. each tank is divided into 7 divisions roughly 210mm long 360mm wide and 500mm high they are divided with Perspex sheets and superfine fly mesh there is 20 divisions for shrimp and 1 division for a sump. Each tank has a custom trickle filter made from a 1.5m length of pvc tropical gutter with a weir glued into one end just before the bulkhead outlet each gutter contains a mix of matrix, bio noodles and gravel & sand as a filler overall there is approximately 6L matrix 3.6 kg of noodles. water flows from sump bottom left as you look at the tank up to the top trickle filter through it down into the tank at the right side of the tank through out the left side into the next filter and so on to the bottom. water is pumped with a rs7200 3000 l/hr sump pump. in the water line is a resun CL650 chiller and Odyssea 18w uv sterilizer. heating is via an Eheim 300w heater air to the 20 double sponge filters via Hailea V60 60L/min air pump. the substrate is a mix of aquarium gravels and sands that should cover the relevant info. Hopefully the link has all the pics. http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/Paul_Minett/library/Facebook/Shrimp%20rack%20construction?sort=3&page=1

Have a look at IScapeAquatics for their 1L cylinders delivered full. AoA has the ISTA regulator. However they are side mounting ones. eBay has the compact version which is suitable for top mounting and is what I have. My set up is: 1. ISTA compact dual gauge regulator with integrated solenoid and needle valve (came with integrated bubble counter and checkvalve but did not use it). From goaqua88 ebay seller. 2. Up Aqua standalone bubble counter (container type with inlet and outlet both on top). From goaqua88 ebay seller. 3. Dupla CO2 check vavlves (one before BC and one after BC). From an LFS. 4. ISTA 1L and Up Aqua 1L CO2 cylinders (both from iscape aquatics) 5. DIY CO2 reactor using 50mm Holman Press PVC from Bunnings and powered by canister filter. If you are not using a canister filter then you can DIY an internal one that is powered by a small internal pump. A plastic baby's milk bottle, drill and pump is all you need and as it sits inside the tank, you don't have to seal everything off.

Little miss 4 sounds like she has expensive bling bling taste in shrimp.

I agree! It was great to meet everybody in real life. Shrimp people are a really nice breed.

Nice photos, Kiz ....and so much easier to see than the real shrimp in the tanks (even though I was wearing my glasses)

Really nice to meet you all on the weekend Glenn, Jay and Petra. Thanks for making the effort to get here, it was much appreciated I'm sure. Hope your trips home are nice and easy. My photos of the show shrimp will be up soon in a new thread.

Little Miss 4 & Mr 9 came to the Shrimp Championships with me today and she found a shrimp she now loves more than CRS, Wine Reds. But she wasn't to happy when I told her we'd have to sell every single 1 of our CRS to be able to get some money to buy them, and that would only be enough for a couple of them, lol.

They're some rough looking shrimp..... They only have 4 appendages and there heads are tiny ;)

I dislike the internet info, as it could come from a 6 year and they could be known as a expert. The classic is Freshwater Morays Gymnothorax polyuraodon , the forums say it wont like in any thing but Brackish water, We have kept specimens in full fresh for may years and spawning is next try as we have a lot more info now, below is a link with some old info, it is yet to be updated. We have observed them at times of salt influx to be as far away from the salt as they can be. http://australianmuseum.net.au/freshwater-moray-gymnothorax-polyuranodon-bleeker-1853 Bob
