So after 18mths & a number of different graphic designers, I have finally got the cherry shrimp family tree ready for peer review. I know there is a few additions to be added, like blue gene orange rili & green orange rili, any other suggestions will be gladly added.

Oh goodness no - my fur babies are my two dogs. It's empty nest syndrome the kids leave home and you need something cute to love- hubby isn't cute enough anymore!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have a little hair algae starting in the tank. I know how to manually remove it. What I would like to know is what I can do to stop it from growing in the first place. Any ideas? Here is an overall shot of the tank. As I said, it is doing well for the most part. Some of the moss I thought might be overrun by the brown fungus seems to be making a come back. The wisteria is looking pretty pathetic though. I am not sure if I mentioned that the tank is on my nightstand. This is the view I have while lying in bed. Here is a shot of a moss that is coming back with a shrimp tending to it And of course I have to post at least one shrimp pic

its hot again here in Adelaide 40degrees and although we have ducted air conditioning it's an evaporative one and doesn't work really well in high heat and humidity. Hubby and I plus the fur babies are down in our bedroom with the aircon and ceiling fan on and reasonably comfortable but next door in the shrimp room it's a cool 24 almost cold even ! If it gets hotter I'm moving into the shrimp room,! They have refrigerated air conditioning- something not quite right here! The CRS tank is not so lucky it's in the lounge but it's 4 computer fans are keeping it between 2-23 so they are working well - being a 200 litre tank probably helps.

Tai is the boy Tia is the girl she is only a puppy in this picture. I taught myself to clip them as there coats grow so quickly - they only have a bad haircut for a few days then they look ok

Was that too German again? Don't worry, I've murdered fishies in the past too!

I would Bob but I don't think Alan would move in with me and while that's not a big problem the fur babies get upset if we don't sleep in the same room. They spend the night running between the rooms and keeping us awake and DONT Even mention shutting the door - they would go berserk! And talking about SERIOUS fishos that room was the grandchildrens sleepover room - they don't come to stay now because the shrimp have their room. Great grandmother hey.

There's a recent thread about even 316 stainless rusting in acidic shrimp water, and a follow-up of sorts by fishmosy on DIY guards made from nylon aquaculture mesh. There's good information there about the mesh aperture sizes required to keep shrimplets in. The easiest, cheapest and possibly best option may be as Will described above, using a sponge on the intake. A drawback is that it's sure to block up quicker than a mesh strainer. If I was doing what you're doing with the cannister I'd put the white pad up top so you can get to it easily when it needs cleaning. I'd possibly put a thin layer of sub below the marinepure and then load sub into the gaps around each layer of marine. When you're done load the rest of the sub on top, then finish with the white pad. BUT, I also recommend waiting for JayC to reply so you can get his opinion too.

So you guys think there is a problem, Sorry can see it, so no problem. You know serious fishos when the car is out side and the garage is full of tanks and that's how it should be. Dam I am glad we don't have to put up with temps over 35 and with exception of this year over 33 is only 2 or 3 days usualy. Toughen up Ineke and go live with the fishes or in your case shrimpses Bob

Ha ha, my shrimp have refrigerated air con too. The hottest their room ever gets is 24 degrees while I sweat and put up with inside temperatures above 40 some days to save some power. They eat better than me too.
  16. Garnelchen
Sounds reasonable to me! What's the problem, Ineke?

I thought crack was cocaine wif baking soda. Ice is methamphetamine. Technically I also thought junkies were into junk. Smack. Hammerheads. Anyway this should all be in "wipe your chin". We should get back to shrimp food.

All good suggestions everybody. My suggestion was based on the assumption Neo will be using a mesh pre filter, like we are all doing mostly. This is a shrimp tank filter, right? The mesh prefix filter not only stops shrimp being sucked into the filter, it also minimises large debris clogging the coarse sponge. The blue coarse sponge should stay unclogged for a long time. And Substrate pro is a good bio media. I didn't dismiss it completely, I suggested using it after the marine pure, to close the gaps. Neo, in case you didn't know, your filter intake NEEDS a prefilter. Mesh or sponge. To stop shrimps being sucked in. But it will also stop large debris. If it was a fish tank with no prefilter, I'd set it up differently, with the rings first > blue sponge > white sponge > fine sponge > marine pure

This is the year that your luck will be changed. :) Other than this sponge filter, there are more prizes coming your way. LOL!!!
