We would all like to think that everyone you deal with in the hobby can be trusted and don't have an alterior motive. Sadly however there are some in the hobby who are deceiving enough to steal what others have worked hard for. I thought i would write some tips which will better assist in protecting you, your belongings and what you have worked hard for. There is nothing worst then having someone violate your privacy and the home of you and your family. Tips that may be handy in no particular order. Most are common sense. * If you are breeding high value shrimp or selling anything of value avoid having your shrimp picked up from your home address. * Always obtain a phone number from the person you are dealing with as you can confirm some legitimacy of the dealing and phone numbers are traceable by Police. * Invest in an alarm system for your home if you dont have good neighbours make sure its back to base. * If you are unable to afford any alarm for your home or are renting consider investing in a dummy blue light box and alarm warning stickers. * Invest in good quality CCTV in your home covering the points of entry / Shrimp room. Dont skimp as poor quality images are useless to the Police in identifying the culprit. * If you can not afford CCTV then consider imitation cameras for the outside of your premises and again stickers. * If you have any concerns arrange pick up in a public place and arrive early and wait away from your vehicle. Some people can obtain your details from your roads and traffic authority through your number plate if they try hard enough. * Record your buyers/sellers registration plate if you have concerns and record your dealings. * Wait until the other party has left the location before you leave so that you can not be followed to your home address. * Record any break and enter or attempt to your local Police and ensure you obtain a report number and the Police officers name you spoke to so it can be followed up. * Invest in a P.O Box, it allows confidentiality without having to disclose your address to anyone. * Dont disclose any information to people you don't know. Simple things even like employment can provide vital information to a thief in regards to ascertaining times when you are not home. * If regularly selling shrimp and allowing contact with strangers invest in a separate sim card. * Take someone with you if you have the slightest concerns. * Invest in sensor lights on the external part of your residence. These days you can buy solar powered LED flood lights if you dont want hard wired to save money. * If you go away on holidays invest in in a holiday light attachment. You buy them from bunnings and you plug them into your light socket between the connection and the light bulb. It will randomly turn your light on and off at different intervals giving the look of someone being home. * Be cautious of who you advise that you are away on holidays. This is the prime time for someone to break in to your premises. * Try to avoid giving out your full name, especially if the buyer is local to your city. * If you use a land line number, make it a private number. * If you have used the same username or email address on various forums, do a google search to see if you've left identifying information associated with them. * Don't discuss how often/how long you tend to be out of the house for work etc.

Having taken a bit of time to work through this thread I can see its generated a fair amount of interest. The whole CRS vs PRL thing also comes down to a level of trust. I've brought PRLs myself from somebody whom I trust completely and when he says mid-grade PRLs I'm okay with that. Its exactly the same as we've seen with others, people selling TBMs as TBs, it shouldn't happen but we have a lot of people trying to make money in a short time. The only good thing I'd say is most tend to fail and then move on to other species. For anybody selling you PRLs they should be able to tell you the line or at least whom they brought them from, my own group I've labelled as PRL - BSOZ, so pretty obvious where mine come from. I've only a small group of PRLs but I've got to say the white intensity is just gorgeous, but the colour is full for both the red and white, thats what I like the most. I'm also pleased to say I've a girl who is berried at the moment so I'm looking forward to seeing what comes through and the low grades or the ones that aren't up to scratch will move into my CRS tank. Anything that can help to improve their quality can't be a bad thing but there is a lot of culling to be done for PRLs to keep the standards up. We've seen so many other lines drop of as people head purely for numbers as opposed to quality, such a shame but all I'd suggest is look towards Yellow and Sunkists Cherry Shrimps, a lot of these are very pale these days with selective breeding programs being thrown out and the focus purely on numbers. There are a lot of people claiming PRL but from my investigations I'd suggest we have 3 maybe 4 lines of PRLs in Australia, and maybe 2 lines of PBLs. If you're buying and spending good money ask the hard questions, if you can't trust the buyer then run like hell and let the rest of us know as well.

Excellent post OzShrimp. I'll add a couple of suggestions. If meeting up, make it a major shopping centre or somewhere equally central to your area rather than your local shops. Try to avoid giving out your full name, especially if the buyer is local to your city. Second the suggestion about another sim. If you still have a landline, make it a private number. If you have used the same username or email address on various forums, do a google search to see if you've left identifying information associated with them. Don't discuss how often/how long you tend to be out of the house for work etc. Sometimes just a suburb (from meeting at the local shops or mentioning it online somewhere like a classified ad) and an email address/phone number are enough for people to find your home address. One of my friends works in the area of stalking and risk assessment, you'd be amazed at what people can find out about someone from just a few scraps of info.

I counted 123 CRS shrimplets today!! Everytime I look in their tank I almost have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. I've even spent a few nights sleeping on the couch this week as I've fallen asleep while I've been watching them, lol.

Amongst the many new things coming to SKF in 2015 we will be implementing two new fliers. These fliers will consist of one targeting membership to attract new members great for our growing community here. These fliers will be able to be utilised at our sponsors shops, aquarium related events members are attending or simply throwing one in when sales are made to non member shrimp keepers. Our other flier is aimed at targeting new Sponsors which not only benefits our members but also the sponsors by introducing them to a loyal shrimp community. This flier would be presented to businesses deemed suitable for the forum. Both fliers are A4 size and are in the final process of completion. This is where you can help any constructive feedback in relation to the fliers is much appreciated. They are already undergoing some editing at the moment, bare in mind you will not be able to view the actual flier at its full size on your computer.. So behold! Membership flier - Current updates to this flier include some minor rewording and the adding of our other sponsors logos at the bottom. Ultimately the premium sponsors images will be slightly larger. Sponsors flier This flier will be undertaking some minor rewording inclusive of the sentence Australias Premium Shrimp Forum as we are one of the Worlds premium shrimp forums.

    I used 70mm X 35mm M10, I wouldn't go any smaller than this, 90mm X 45mm is way better but, obviously, not as cheap.

Doesn't it feel like the marketing for PRL was widely successful? Look at how just the mere mention of PRL in the title can often sway people's opinions. Alot of folks have their own opinions on what qualifies a PRL/JRB/CRS, and that is a great thing. I've seen so many people label their shrimps as a PRL to make a sales, and guess what? IT WORKS! Because it works, it will continue to happen until we get a bit wiser. I think this is the root of many problems. Calling shrimps PRL is so easy now that EVERYONE has PRL. I think it's harder for find regular CRS now then it is to find PRL. The problem is rooted in those few up the chain who first did this trickery. Those that buy their shrimps from such folks will continue to call their shrimps PRL (because they bought it as PRL) and so the chain continues. Then there's names and brands that often gets associated with PRL... Benibachi, Crimson, Ebi-Ten, Ellen Wang, MK, etc... Often folks don't even know the true lineage of their bloodline, yet they continue to call them such bloodline. Hell, I was in HK a year ago and I asked for Nishiki PRL and the store owner pointed to a tank which were clearly NOT Nishiki. I even asked for a certificate and he said he could just PRINT one out for me! Bahah! This is why I have to agree with ShrimpyDaddy and say that... instead of buying shrimps based on the brand or bloodline someone says, instead buy a shrimp based on the way it looks. Bloodline and lineages means nothing. There's really no way to trace such things and majority of the time those selling you a name brand shrimp are lying to you for a quick buck. If you have the opportunity to visit the breeder and/or know the source your shrimp is coming from is reputable, then buy it. Never take anything at face value because that's how you'll always pay more and get less.

I've deliberatley kept my green cherry program in low PH (6.2).....breeding rate not great, but wanted to ensure the green is not PH related. Weird logic, but, that's how I approach all my chery selective breeding programs.

I am looking forward for the continuation of these post. I have a lot of questions about PRL cause I would like to have some in my next set up. Thanks for the first post.
