Doesn't it feel like the marketing for PRL was widely successful? Look at how just the mere mention of PRL in the title can often sway people's opinions. Alot of folks have their own opinions on what qualifies a PRL/JRB/CRS, and that is a great thing. I've seen so many people label their shrimps as a PRL to make a sales, and guess what? IT WORKS! Because it works, it will continue to happen until we get a bit wiser. I think this is the root of many problems. Calling shrimps PRL is so easy now that EVERYONE has PRL. I think it's harder for find regular CRS now then it is to find PRL. The problem is rooted in those few up the chain who first did this trickery. Those that buy their shrimps from such folks will continue to call their shrimps PRL (because they bought it as PRL) and so the chain continues. Then there's names and brands that often gets associated with PRL... Benibachi, Crimson, Ebi-Ten, Ellen Wang, MK, etc... Often folks don't even know the true lineage of their bloodline, yet they continue to call them such bloodline. Hell, I was in HK a year ago and I asked for Nishiki PRL and the store owner pointed to a tank which were clearly NOT Nishiki. I even asked for a certificate and he said he could just PRINT one out for me! Bahah! This is why I have to agree with ShrimpyDaddy and say that... instead of buying shrimps based on the brand or bloodline someone says, instead buy a shrimp based on the way it looks. Bloodline and lineages means nothing. There's really no way to trace such things and majority of the time those selling you a name brand shrimp are lying to you for a quick buck. If you have the opportunity to visit the breeder and/or know the source your shrimp is coming from is reputable, then buy it. Never take anything at face value because that's how you'll always pay more and get less.

Amongst the many new things coming to SKF in 2015 we will be implementing two new fliers. These fliers will consist of one targeting membership to attract new members great for our growing community here. These fliers will be able to be utilised at our sponsors shops, aquarium related events members are attending or simply throwing one in when sales are made to non member shrimp keepers. Our other flier is aimed at targeting new Sponsors which not only benefits our members but also the sponsors by introducing them to a loyal shrimp community. This flier would be presented to businesses deemed suitable for the forum. Both fliers are A4 size and are in the final process of completion. This is where you can help any constructive feedback in relation to the fliers is much appreciated. They are already undergoing some editing at the moment, bare in mind you will not be able to view the actual flier at its full size on your computer.. So behold! Membership flier - Current updates to this flier include some minor rewording and the adding of our other sponsors logos at the bottom. Ultimately the premium sponsors images will be slightly larger. Sponsors flier This flier will be undertaking some minor rewording inclusive of the sentence Australias Premium Shrimp Forum as we are one of the Worlds premium shrimp forums.

for ada amazonia soil, you need daily water change for the first 9 days, because the high ammonia after that u could raise the tds and add the bacteria each weekly waterchange if you want faster cycle, u need to add plant, that's how the hobbyist cycle without bacterial products

Nice topic this is, even with all the side discussions, I like it. Informative for me too. Sorry I can't keep up the posts every week, very busy period at the moment This time I was going to show something that ShrimpDaddy point me to. It's about colored swimminglegs or pleopods as they are called. A good characteristic in my opinion is that as much as possible parts are colored. As showed before, this is much more intense that on 'normal' crystal red. Like the legs and the antenna's. But even some of them has colored pleopods. I've been camping in front of my tanks, but so fare I only have one picture from Shrimp Daddy to prove this colored pleopods: Very nice example! So you have to be patient for more pictures about this, and if I will not succeed, next post (in the new year!!) will be about abdomen, abdominal somietes. The panser of the body and the thickness and form of it.

You can use the Bee Max as a food or a bacterial booster, it doesn't matter how much water you change, the stock load is more important as the shrimp will eat it. The mineral powder is meant to be a supplement for your shrimp as they use minerals in the water in their day to day life, breeding & moulting, etc. I would use the recommended dose only every week or two.

Great to hear and see so many hurdles and achievements accomplished by so many..... My 2014 journey has been focused more on selective breeding. Several distraction (work, marine tank ...etc) on the later half, but looking fwd to 2015 to secure some lines and definitive directions to my breeding programs

Great post, no doubt there's differing opinions,.... I personally use 1 main criteria's to determine PRL's v CRS's. Besides colour/depth, what's the MOST critical for me is those coloured legs....they have to be coloured legs to be classed as PRL's. Patterns do not determine the grades for PRL's. I think using the term "Pinto Gene" on TB' shows that there's "tiger genetics".... Would hate to have purchased a "TB" for my selective TB program, and having pinto type patterns coming through. Like purchasing Shrimps on F generations, TB's or SSS...etc, the trust is given to the breeder/seller.

I've also noticed this among my PRL. I've been a huge PRL fan for so long now and on many occasions when opportunity arise and funds are plentiful, I would find myself picking up a couple of PRL to add to my collection. A few things I've noticed with the PRL as of late.. 1. My first generation of PRL (the oldest purchased PRL) demonstrated the BEST colors. Coincidentally, the typically Tiger Tooth or Saber Tooth (as Shrimpy Daddy has put it) has always ranked highest in terms of coloration when compared to the SSS Grades (speaking matter of factly in terms of the "OLD" grading systems based on patterns ranging from C - SSS Mosura). 2. As the PRL crazed continue to grow and become more widely available (speaking in terms of availability in NA as we are usually 2-3 years behind on all shrimping related trends) the once signature Tiger Tooth/Saber Tooth patterns have given way to the more SSS grades (almost all white with only the red heads) patterns. I found that amongst these contains the most unstable and "ugly" colors. It's at these grades that I begin to see the "yellow" and "pinkish-red" colors. Conclusion: I do believe that the best "PRL" ranging in the lower pattern grades S-SS (No-Entry - Tiger's Tooth/Saber Tooth patterns). I feel like the way most breeders of these high grades PRL are doing somesort of genetic mixing (what mixing and combination, I do not know) but it has brought forth a lot of genetic instability tainting in the once good PRL name. As such, I don't even bother with the fancy (and often heavily marketed and advertised) SSS Grade PRL with the red head and complete white bodies and white legs. I found that 90% of the time they look grade in pictures but are lacklustre in person. I just want to add that the JRB and JBB (Japanese Black Bees or should it be Japanese Black Line?) all arrived safely and is currently undergoing the acclimating process. I'll be able to add them to my tanks in a few hours. And yes, the "PRL" I purchased from HK a year ago are terrible (similar to the SSS PRL I bought from a local importer a few months ago) and have been kept separated inside their own breeder box. I found the pinkish - yellow color really ugly and so I've made little effort to continue working on them. Id like to add some iPhone pictures of the JRB I hand selected while in Japan. Also, while I was in Japan I noticed that of the 4 top tier JRB tanks (prices ranging from ¥30000-50000) 3 of said tanks consisted of all Red Legged JRB with patterns ranging from Hino No-Entry - Tiger's Tooth/Saber Tooth. Examples: Winners I hand picked: Disclaimer: I know these pictures can look subjective as it's not a macro photography and iphone photos don't say much, but I do plan on getting a few pictures of these guys with my X-T1 + Macro lens when they acclimate and color up.
