So 2014 is drawing to a close, what were your shrimping goals for the year and how did you go in achieving them? My 2014 goal was to have my 4ftr full of CRS by the end of the year, I have always been inspired by the tank shots Ace would have of his full tanks when he sold them. Initially i lost practically all my stock at the beginning of the year. After the donation of a few shrimp from 2 members and then later winning some in a comp on here in exchange for the posters i got a head start with about 20 CRS. I also managed to buy a 2nd hand RO Unit allowing me to successfully start breeding and maintaing my colony keeping them alive. Now i probably have about 50-60 CRS in my tank ranging from new shrimplets to adults. Ever 2 weeks i probably lose 1 shrimp however i think its deaths of age or not eating the food. My other goal for the year was to get a cull grade TB to see if i was able to keep it alive in my tank as the next step up from CRS. I failed to source a cull TB so this goal was unachieved. . My Goal for next year is to continue to try and grow my CRS colony and exchange with other CRS breeders to strengthen the genetics in my tank.

Great post, no doubt there's differing opinions,.... I personally use 1 main criteria's to determine PRL's v CRS's. Besides colour/depth, what's the MOST critical for me is those coloured legs....they have to be coloured legs to be classed as PRL's. Patterns do not determine the grades for PRL's. I think using the term "Pinto Gene" on TB' shows that there's "tiger genetics".... Would hate to have purchased a "TB" for my selective TB program, and having pinto type patterns coming through. Like purchasing Shrimps on F generations, TB's or SSS...etc, the trust is given to the breeder/seller.

woo! Ok I secretly thought these guys had mostly died on me due to how elusive they had been but I suspect it may have been temperature related (today was a warm day, chillers aren't on because it wasn't that warm) normally my tanks are at 24 or 25 (because guppy endler hybrids are my usual fair) but the temp in the tanks seem to have climbed to 28 today and suddenly shrimp were visible all over the place in both of their tanks (I put 5 in one tank and the other 15+ in the main tank, safety net/survivability testing/so far glut doesn't seem to be a problem for them). There's two distinct egg colourations (yellow and navy blue although no good pics of that lady, she's one of the more coloured and patterned shrimp but she was shadowed by some leaves) and a female that appears to have dropped her eggs early (no shrimplets that I've seen) has resaddle (yellow green) Again, not great pictures but it's the best I've got.

Booooooo! That's not good news dud, but don't let it get you down, do a quick WP check to make sure it's nothing obvious & you should be all good. Hopefully you get some good males from the latest drop to continue breeding.

A big thank you for my Shrimpmas prize which I just received. The shrimp are happily munching on some Snow as we speak - thanks Squiggs! Thanks to SKF and the sponsors and of course Jamie for a great competition and great prizes!

Just sharing the love Ineke, glad you & your shrimp are happy with it!

2014 was mostly a wind down in the total number of tanks I keep, but an increase in the number of shrimp tanks. Basically swaping from fish dominated to shrimp dominated. Started the year with around 20 tanks in total of which 2 had shrimp, reduced now to 7, with 5 for shrimp. I've finally been able to set aside two tanks so I can work on increasing the grade of my CRS. One for breeding and display, and one for the culls. Also started a new tank with chameleons, and now just waiting on their first lot of offspring to mature so I can start line breeding. Haven't done anything with my cherries which are now breeding uncontrolled in a 4ft with some Aus natives, snails and plants, but have set aside a tank to line breed some reds (from choc parents) which I will be starting in the next week or so.

    Not pure! Simple.

I had the mission of setting up a rack in 2014. Originally was going to be ten tanks, but reduced this to five. This has been more successful than I had hoped, with minimal losses and many wonderful shrimplets coming through. My CRS that were given there own three foot tank have blossomed into a madly expanding population, again minimal losses due to the fact I don't change much around and leave them to their own devices. The grade of offspring is improving with the addition of better quality genetics, thanks Gbang and Aquathumb. I have been lucky to have had successes in the TB realm, with surprise genetics popping up from a supposed pure TB I purchased. Many pinto type showing up and now first generation is weeks away from breeding age I believe. My red bolt program has really gone nowhere fast and I will leave them for another couple of months, but may disband this program in 2015. I have some Tibee girls with a red mosura type male, the first drop is occurring now, so hopefully some red Tibee variants in the mix!! This will be developed further in 2015. My first lots of mosura type BB have dropped and there are some beauties in the mix, two more mums yet to drop. I hope to develop a stunning dark mosura BlueBolt in 2015. All in all I have had a lucky year and not too much heartbreak!! 2015 should bring another eight tank rack by easter and maybe delving into a few tanks for tigers mid year?? Couldn't have achieved, nor persisted with, any of it without the support and inspiration this forum and its brilliant members have provided! Many thanks everyone! Good luck with everything in 2015.

In Europe, the grading is Low, Medium and High. In Japan, they use S, SS and SSS. However, none of them are based on pattern. Instead, they are based on the colour intensity and coverage, body shape (the Japanese are critical on the berried shrimp shape too) and posture. In some countries, they will look at the size too. In summary, the grading is kind of based on criteria used in competition. When comes to pattern, it is more for personal preference. Be it banded, saber-tooth, hinomaru or mosura, they all cost the same price. In Japan, more people prefer banded and saber-tooth than the rest. This is because these pattern will exhibit the best red colour in contrast of white. Those so called "PRL" from whichever lineage that most seller claims are either they self-breed or they just buy from those cross-breed offspring from those mass-market shrimp farm. Never buy PRL that people claims about the line or cull from which ever tank. Lineage means these shrimp originate from a good shrimp, but they have been crossed breed and produce low quality shrimp after generations. Hence, the shrimp you are buying is just normal shrimp that may looks a little like PRL. If certain PRL tank is able to cull out very low quality shrimp, then those are not good PRL. Hence, don't believe when people claims that these shrimps are cull from PRL tank.
