A friend has had this species going for at least 10 years now. I remember obtaining the original imported stock for him at the time. The subject of this post is the orange-tailed colour morph. I recently obtained a couple of pairs as I'm getting my fishroom going again and my friend is essentially packing his up. It wouldn't do to let the species slip out of the hobby here and have to rely again on imported stock. Too many great things have already been lost as breeders leave the field. Anyway, here's a pic of mum with a baby visible to the lower left, and fairly tight crop of dad's head. Sorry about that - I'd love to show the whole fish but had to crop to reduce image size to post. cheers, Kyrill

Hi all, have introduced myself in another section of the forum so now it's down to business. Here are my tank specs, am relatively new to shrimp keeping, have a range of shrimp like Red Cherry Shrimp, Yellow Cherry Shrimp, Chameleon Shrimp, Darwin Algae Shrimp and Crystal Red Shrimp, I'm not looking to breed so that breeding of the Yellows and Reds doesn't bother me at all, I just enjoy watching the little critters cruise around and play (watched a Yellow and a CRS fight over a algae wafer last night, was funny), all comments, suggestions, advice welcome, cheers. Heres a recent photo I took after I added the mini Java Fern in and introduced the Crystal Red Shrimp. Serkan, the breeder I got these from was breeding them but these are not Paratyas. I have had captive Paratya breed many times, it's raising good numbers of the tiny larvae that's the tricky part. I have berried females of the pictured shrimp now and they're quite large-egged, so I don't anticipate any problems. Fishmosy, your excellent article on Paratya got me thinking anew about a species I've been playing with for years. I have never seen forms with large eggs down here in Victoria and I've collected from nearly the entire state. The diversity must be great further north - I have to get back up the east coast on a netting trip again. I do know where to find a real red form, blacks and blueish ones in very low numbers with typical clear ones but they're very unstable and individuals tend to change when you're keeping them. Line breeding towards stable colour is a decent but probably unrealistic goal.
