Hey All, The next round of The Great Oz Shrimp Off will be launching in the next few days. We will be using our new Photo Comps App for this round. We have been actively testing it over the last few weeks and it looks quite sound. Pretty smart actually!! You may have seen the tab appear at the top right next to glossary and Awards tabs. Entries will be anonymous and you can rate each photo entered. The more ratings per photo the better, do try to rate each. There will be three criteria to rate, these may change each round. If you want to start taking your pics, this month's competition subject will be Red Cherry Shrimp. (Rillis will be a separate comp!!) You'll want to be in it, the prize is a whole lot of awesome!! And will be announced soon!! (hint, Big Thanks to BB!) Start getting your photos taken, competition will open in a couple of days! Happy Snapping!!

I have had some Benibachi soil for 18 months, have used only RO/ salty shrimp and the ph is still under 6. My tap water from a puratap filter is 7.5 and the one time I tested my RO it was 6.5. I use the RO for all my tanks but I did make a mistake and not buy the unit for an Aquarium so it doesn't have the DI filter cartridge - I can convert it for $50 which I will do next time I need a new cartridge.

RO theoritically doesn't have a PH, ALTHOUGH it gets influenced readily. If you breath on it (CO2), it'll show a low PH, vs oxygenating it (O2), it'll show a higher PH. Espacially with buffering soil, using tap water will exhaust the soil quickly, vs RO water where it'll influence it very quickly, and without too much effort. Once you've gone to RO, there's no turning back :-)

I'd say the tank has not cycled, due to everything being new, there is no waste to start the cycle.
