Bunnings Kids Sandpit Sand ok?

Just a word of caution.

The sand comes from different quarries depending on which state you are in. So the Bunnings Sandpit sand from NSW or QLD might be different from the Bunnings sand in WA or SA.

I've read of people saying the sand bought at bunnings in NSW/QLD to be ok and relatively inert. But people saying the bunnings sand bought in WA & SA raises some water parameters.

Moral of the story ... test it.

Why add sand at all?

Wouldn't a bare bottom be just as effective as adding inert sand for a cull tub?

I used sand from bunnings SA and unfortunately it very quickly raised the ph in my tank to 9 so as JayC mentioned best test it first. You can always put the plants in little pots.

I've used washed river sand.( from Bunnings) I then rewash thoroughly in a bucket until it runs clear as there is usually clay sediment in it.

Playsand..... Is usually beach sand? So I wouldn't use it.
